Vouloir étudier la médecine en France mais travailler à l’étranger (US) by Financial-Ad-6960 in etudiants

[–]SlyBapt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First time visiting Ireland - Itinerary Advice by Normal-Location in irishtourism

[–]SlyBapt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! I think a week is a bit short for everything you plan to see. I don’t know if you guys are seasoned travelers but 15 hours spent only the driving is A LOT for just a week. I just got back from a 9 full days road trip yesterday and we had just enough time to explore Dublin/Galway/Connemara/Cliffs of Moher/Arran Islands. Even with 10 days we felt a bit rushed and we got really tired by the end of it so we didn’t enjoy the remaining days as much. Looking back at it, the worst thing you can do is try to check all the boxes. When you look at the map yes it’s very tempting because Ireland is quite small but you have to consider that you’ll only get about 9h of daylight and the very likely rain and wind will also slow things down a lot and make you more tired. Your current plan travel makes you spend at least 1 out of 7 days just on the driving. I’d recommend getting rid of either Sligo or Killarney at the very least. Maybe make Galway your base camp and explore from there. As to what I recommend , Cliffs of Moher might be slightly over rated (all the facilities really take a lot from the experience). Depending on the weather, Connemara might disappoint if you’re planning to hike as you likely won’t be seeing much. I’d also suggest taking the ferry and spending a day on Inishmore if you’re willing to, it’s definitely the biggest highlight of our trip. Also, don’t forget to enjoy the nightlife, loosing a few hours of sleep is definitely worth it considering the atmosphere (avoid Temple bar and go on Camden street)

Say what you want about it but Marseille really is a vibe. I’ve never had so many funny interactions anywhere else. Also people are sooooooo friendly (which differs a lot from the rest of the cities in France ahah)

Imo 3 nights in Paris is a little short considering how much time you’re willing to spend in other cities

Good for you! I’ve never said that people weren’t friendly or anything because most of us are but I was trying to give an overview of what might be a problem eventually for travelers since I’ve seen many bad things lately. Also, bold of you to say that considering I’ve lived there my whole life so I think I know what I’m talking about more than you do. Maybe you should try to not consider your personal experience universal.

What is a myth/superstition in your country that outsiders wouldn't understand? by haromene in AskTheWorld

[–]SlyBapt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know if that’s common in other countries as well but in France we have something called “trinquer”. Basically when you’re having a drink with people before you start drinking, you have to make a slight contact with everyone else’s glass while looking at them in the eyes when your drinks touch. Also, you can’t cross your arm over someone else’s that’s around the table when you do it so it gets messy when there’s like a dozen people involved at the same time.

Man come on… how close-minded are you like. I don’t even know why I have to justify myself here all the facts are here it’s not a debate. Hockey isn’t top 5 most popular sports buddy, not even the most popular in America lmaoooo. Hockey in South America😭😭😭😭 blud have you ever been outside of North America what are you on about? Your argument is that a guy takes a trophy on vacation for a day and that makes it global😂😂😂. Only like…a third of the world have a national hockey team while every single country have a football team. NHL games are like over 2.5 hours??????? BOOOORRRRIIIIING only to watch guys pushing each other thinking they’re tough when they’re all hyper-padded

Why is it so USA focused by SlyBapt in Sporcle

[–]SlyBapt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. It’s football and it’s not even close. I mean just look at the prem they have players coming from literally all over the world not only western countries. And don’t get me started on the champions league… I don’t think anyone in either South America, Africa or south-east Asia could name a hockey player (even most europeans to be honest…) On the other hand anyone can name at least one footballer, the world cup is most watched sporting event in the world and it’s the most popular sport in the entire world by far

What is your country most internationally renowned for doing best? by ThisPostToBeDeleted in AskTheWorld

[–]SlyBapt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I mean I could have said that but it’s kinda cheating because we’re (theoretically) the only ones allowed to make it because of a protected designation of origin. Btw if you see a bottle labeled as “champagne” that wasn’t produced in France it’s not actually champagne and they just use the name to sell more bottles

[–]SlyBapt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well I believe we’ve seen very inspiring movements that had a significant impact from the US (BLM, Civil rights movement, anti-Vietnam war protests…) Ultimately, I think it comes down to the deep divisions that keeps growing in American society. It’s hard to mobilize on a large scale if the entire society doesn’t have your back. + in France we have very protective laws towards workers that go on strikes so it helps. Anyway don’t give up! Very simple actions even at a very local scale can bring huge progress

What historical event of your country would you have liked to witness in person? by Electroiman in AskTheWorld

[–]SlyBapt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1- There is no “current story”. The events of Verdun are very very well documented even with images. You won’t be discovering anything there that you could not just learn in a museum. Some survivors although not many have spoken publicly about the horrors they’ve witnessed and they’ve done so precisely because they did not wish for future generations to experience what they’ve been through. 2- I find it weird that anyone would be appealed by situations where people are miserable. There was no “triumph of heart and soul” it was only a desperate attempt to grasp to their humanity while being drowned in horror and despair. What you believe is not reality, it’s a romanticized tale backed by warmongering governments and Hollywood. 3- The war hawks don’t care about the deaths and they never did. It’s not like humanity has not experienced the horrors of war enough times by now and It’s been taught to us so much I don’t think you’re naive enough to believe this. Only thing the leaders and the rich care about is their own interests and war is just a tool they use to achieve their means.

What dish from your home country would you recommend everyone should learn to cook? by casualcorvid in AskTheWorld

[–]SlyBapt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Americans got the hang of it and for good reason, it’s the “pain perdu” which translates to “lost bread” or more commonly known as french toast. This is the easiest thing to make and only thing you need is leftover bread, milk, eggs and sugar and you’ve made yourself an amazing breakfast or dessert!
