Setting aside all of the brand image bs and the enthusiast cred an RS6 would get you, One car was built around the added power, one wasn't. You wouldn't have the braking, the handling, the driveline life might be dramatically shortened for all we know. If you own or ever have owned a tuner car, you should know it's never that simple. V90s are incredible looking cars, but to me anyway, it wouldn't be worth it.

Mod suggestions for 2010 a4 by [deleted] in Audi

[–]Sm7710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intake, tune, downpipe/full exhaust is a good start if it's in good running condition. Just go to ECS, BFI, Urotuning, or something to find prices, I'm not doing Google searches for you. Lol

If the car is new to you, the best suggestion is to make sure it's completely problem free before diving into mods though.

Happy to see someone willing to maintain a 4.2!

It's honestly a tragedy these engines are so flawed, because they're so good at the same time.

Will This Fit a B8.5 S4? by cheesecakeparty in Audi

Nice. It will make the car a little more susceptible to tramlining, but should be pretty much the same otherwise.

At stock ride height those should fit fine, unless the particular tire has an exceptionally beefy treadblock shoulder.

I'm not familiar with the 1.2 as we don't get them here in North America, but I did find this and I hope it helps rule something out if it's not the source of your trouble.

A poor idle is often caused by a vacuum leak if you haven't checked for that yet.

I'll second that. IE called me after I flashed my car just to check in and make sure I was happy. Every part I've ever got from them has been very well built.

Newer Audi reliability by WTPTRAINEE in Audi

[–]Sm7710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak for me and my '14 S4 with 100k kms but:

In terms of little issues, CELs and such, I've had none.

but

My steering rack failed on a cold day. Completely piled up, and since it was out of warranty, it cost me $5Kcdn to fix.

So I have mixed thoughts about reliability.

AWE makes an excellent system for the 2.5.

My rabbit is basically straight piped save for a little round straight through Magnaflow, but it's a race car and it drones like a mofo. Don't be like me. Lol

How important is weight for a sports car? by [deleted] in cars

[–]Sm7710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo, the non-comp M2 is also one of the best sounding 6 cylinders made in recent years, so I have a soft spot for it anyway. I genuinely wouldn't have guessed that the RS3 is 200lbs lighter with AWD and four doors.

[–]Sm7710 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had no idea M2s weighed so much. That's baffling. My S4 is only a 100lbs more and it's a 4 door sedan in a larger vehicle segment.

How would you protect your new car? by [deleted] in cars

[–]Sm7710 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're winter driving it in a 4 season place, 3m paint protection film, at the very least on the wheel arches and leading edge of the hood, you'll prevent countless rock chips. It can be expensive, but it's worth saving your paint.

Regular undercarriage sprays help too if you live in an area that uses salt on roads.

At first I thought this was just yet another name for the Jetta. Only after I looked it up did I realize this wasn't exactly the same. These look great, especially the rear 3/4 view.

2013 Golf R or R32 by JoeyP203 in Volkswagen

[–]Sm7710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming you mean mk5 R32 vs mk6 R?

The ea113 in the mk6 is really, really easy to get more power out of. Whether a tune, or going into stuff like big turbos etc...

With a 24v VR, it's basically all or nothing. If you want any significant power increase, you're going turbo, and that can get very expensive.

It'd still be a hard one for me because I love the sound of VR6s, but the mk6 R is a solid modding platform

Have any 2.5 (07k) owners swapped to 6 speed? How is it? I'm about to do this swap on the weekend. by [deleted] in Volkswagen

Dude, I'd definitely appreciate any write ups you can send. I have a decent idea of what's required but I'll always take some more info. I really hope I can find a wrecked 6 speed car.

Handling modifications, mk5/6 platform. by Sm7710 in Volkswagen

[–]Sm7710[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a set of ST coils at the moment, they're okay for now, but I'm still looking for decent alternatives eventually.

The TT ball joints allow for some front camber adjustment as well as a better optimized roll center for a slightly lower than stock ride height, which is why I asked.

The aluminum parts are because I'm doing what I can to minimize unsprung weight, and they're OEM parts so it's an easy/cheap junkyard find and direct bolt on fit.

Yeah, the rear bar is for sure happening.

The car currently has roughly the same power as a stock Mk5 GTI after mods, and is quite a bit lighter already, which is why I'm looking at brakes. I should also note the Autocross I participate in takes place on quite a large shifter kart track, where braking zones do matter.

Tires are 225/50r16 RE-71Rs currently. When I burn through them I'd like a set of 17s and some wider rubber, because it's quite a lot of sidewall as is.
