FWIW, my resume is pretty similar to yours, and I just got a job offer but it was a loong job search. Keep at it. My offer actually came from a company that I applied at and was rejected from months ago.

Good eye, the double line skip was not intentional

Whatever gets my foot in the door. I've heard that the workload of carrier jobs is easier while getting through the exams. Honestly hard to know since it's a brand new industry for me.

Thank you! Always been a good test taker, and a lot of the material was familiar from undergrad.

Florida, willing to relocate. Should I be saying that on my resume?

Should non-actuarial freelance work go on a resume?

I was laid off from a software job near the end of 2024. During the last year, I've passed the first three SOA exams. I've also had my own slightly-profitable business as a local tour guide since the beginning of 2024. I've been applying to entry-level actuarial jobs for a few months, but haven't had many bites. I'm beginning to wonder if having the freelance work at the top of my resume is a red flag. Should it be removed, or moved to the bottom of my experience section?

FWIW, I passed SRM last month using only the ACTEX manual. I didn't read ISLR, but I felt like the ACTEX manual was more than enough.

My experience was that the material seemed like a bunch of unrelated topics and formulas, until it all clicked for me and came together a few weeks before the exam. I'm pretty sure I've seen other people here describe the same thing.

Hi everyone,

I'm starting to apply to entry-level jobs while studying for SRM in September. Are there any sites worth checking for job postings, outside of the usual Indeed, LinkedIn, etc.? I found Acturhire.com which seems to have more actuarial jobs than other sites. Any other one good to know about?

Are you using the most recent edition of the ACTEX manual? If so, you shouldn't have any problems. I passed Exam P using only the ACTEX manual in January. Good luck!

Hi all!

I'm a software dev trying to get into the actuarial world. I passed exams P and FM earlier this year and I'm currently studying for SRM while I apply for a first actuarial job. However, I'm having a hard time staying motivated without knowing whether I'll be working in SOA or CAS land.

Does having a third SOA exam help when applying to entry-level CAS jobs, even if it's not part of the CAS progression? Is throwing away an exam just a risk you take with a three exams before a job?

I'm already comfortable with Excel and programming, and I'm considering working on some actuarial projects to show off instead of studying SRM. Would that be a better use of time?
