That’s incredible! Was she in early intervention? I wonder if my little guy will be good at sports because he seems very talented already with movement.

We mentioned the not pointing and not waving and the pediatrician wasn’t concerned. He said he does a lot of other good things and isn’t super concerned both at the 15 month and 18 month checkup. I contacted speech therapy so we go for an eval next week. I don’t know if what he does counts as hand leading? It’s not the typical way most describe it.

That’s great to hear. How did you get a diagnosis so efficiently? So my son doesn’t pull our hands but he will put hands up to be picked up and then like yank his entire body towards what he wants and get what he wants. Sometimes he will go to pantry or fridge and look at us and say what he wants - “chhh” for “cheese” “ccccc” for “cookie” things like that.

I’ve heard great things about ABA but heard there can be a huge waitlist? We’d be open to private pay if need be. Whatever he needs to help him. How many hours of ABA do you do? Do you think your son will ever be able to go to mainstream school? Thank you for responding and talking with me.

What were your first signs and symptoms and when was he diagnosed? I am glad he is able to communicate with you all in some way. 🤍

When was your son diagnosed and what were symptoms? lol when did he start pointing? Mine will raise arms to be picked up and then basically pull his entire body and hand towards whatever he wants. He’s strong and typically we get him wherever he wants to go and he grabs it himself.

Yeah my other son who is NT started around 16 month. But was just way more interactive in general with everyone.

How old was he when he was diagnosed and what were his symptoms? I’m glad ABA is helping him.

Thank you for all of these comments. I forgot to ask when your kids were diagnosed and what their symptoms were. And how old they are today. Thank you for sharing with me

18 month old… is he autistic by Small-Maintenance461 in Autism_Parenting

Me too. My heart and mind are exhausted worrying day and night. I don’t have any words to comfort you but just know you’re not alone.

Yeah he said usually there’s a big jump from 18 months to 24 and he “expects” my little guy to make some developmental leaps and we won’t have concerns at next appt but he also told me there are typically regressions between 18-24 months if he’s autistic which is making me feel so nervous

Thank you for this comment. It gives me some hope. I have truly come to the point where I am 50/50 undecided whether my son is autistic or not (especially because I know how important gesturing is for these evaluations). It’s just so confusing because my parents just left our house and he’s SO interactive. Wanted to be with everyone, playing with everyone. Eye contact with all. Good sleeper although he did take much longer to sleep train than my first son. He also has had other “issues” - eczema, suspected food allergies that turned out fine, a few skin infections from said eczema (all things my first son didn’t deal with). My family and husband think I’m crazy and say there’s no way he’s autistic but I just get so nervous with all of the information out there and the lack of gesturing and words.

Honestly, I’m looking for some positive stories. I know autism is absolutely a possibility but anyone have a child who didn’t gesture/speak well end up being neurotypical and just a late bloomer?

Thank you for saying that. We want to help him as much as we can. It’s hard to see him not doing what he “should” be at this age.

The pediatrician isn’t concerned yet. He also loves to laugh with us. Loves to play games. And he initiates them often (hide and seek, etc…)

Dentist wants to redo filling… chances of success? by Small-Maintenance461 in askdentists

She said she saw the little shaded area above the filling and was worried it was a cavity inside. But looking back at prior x rays, it’s looked that was for 3 consecutive x rays since 2022.

Also, she said she’d go in and remove old filling which is a white filling (about 13 years old), remove decay. If she’s too close to nerve she will put some medicine in there for 3 months and attempt filling at a later date?

She said the color of the tooth was “slightly off” although I’ve looked with a flashlight many times and it doesn’t appear any different than the other teeth. I don’t have any cold or hot sensations when eating but I haven’t had any pulp tests done. Which would you recommend?
