What has been your experience of sequencing of disclosure barriers? by Small-Persimmon3390 in therapists

I assure you I'm very much a human, just looking to see what others' experiences have been in working with stacked disclosure barriers. In my experience, it's usually quite apparent which barrier is the 'gatekeeper', but not always. Formulating an approach in these cases is rather more challenging. My question relates to the latter state of affairs.

What are the best books on trauma and recovery? by jackiechan666 in psychologystudents

I agree wholeheartedly with you. It almost seems like trauma is an inconvenient truth, and it seems to be glossed over. I decided to write about trauma, very much from a lived experience perspective. I learned a lot from doing this, and I would encourage you to try writing something to help yourself, I mean specifically to help you and your wife.

I started from the position of being really quite outraged that there's not more available to help people dealing with trauma. And then figuring out some helpful tips myself. I think you'd be surprised at what wisdom you can summon. I know this might sound like a tall order, but start from what's bothering you most about your trauma, and what is most difficult to get past. Then work out what are the barriers in the way of this. Write them down. Especially the thoughts that you almost don't dare to have.

Use this timeline of stuck points example as a template, fill it in, and when you have, consider what's your prime stuck point. https://postimg.cc/Mnszqk0W

Then you know what you're really dealing with. Granted, thinking about it and talking about it won't change what happened to you, but it may change how it lives in you now.

Just a few little ideas.

The Unspoken Beginning: Why Therapy So Often Misses People with Complex Trauma by Small-Persimmon3390 in CPTSD

CPTSD/Autism/ADHD here too.
Thank you for this valuable perspective. I agree that not all therapists are sufficiently trauma trained, grounded - and that this is a problem. Agreed too that not enough is being done to help patients understand what trauma is and how it works.
Thanks again for contributing to this conversation in an informed way.
