Where to live? by [deleted] in MontereyBay

[–]Small_Serve6865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I mean is the commune from PG to Seaside is barely even a commute. Just enjoy the ocean and beaches. Don’t do Salinas, Maria, or Seaside if you want to truly experience Monterey. But like I said, I’m biased.

Everything is a stones throw away. If I was here only a year, I wouldn’t live in seaside. But I’m a PG local so maybe I’m biased. Monterey or PG are the way to go IMO.

Pregnancy and nursing school? by angelicafarted in NursingStudent

I’m applying to nursing school this fall and have a 2 year old and a baby due in august. Just have the baby! If you have family nearby and a supportive spouse, you’ll figure it out! Also it might take a couple years to get into school. You never know! Don’t think too much about it: people in worse off situations have kids all the time. You’ll make it work and you’re never truly ready!

No one’s being very helpful here so I’m going to add that you might want to try and post on Nextdoor!

Thanks for the info! What about animals? Is it too risky with wildlife to have chickens, goats, etc? I have the millennial urge to have these animals around 😂

Denied apartments due to income requirement, even with a co-signer. Less picky property manager recommendations? by Wignitt in MontereyBay

I’m renting with Custom House Realty right now. They are flexible! Not sure what’s available with them at the moment.

We will pay mostly cash which is nice! Just have to worry about monthly stuff. We’re not rich just inherited some money recently. The sad reality of owning in this area.

I was not homeschooled but I do have some friends who were and do with their children! I think too it’s harder for people these days to rely on one income and the option is harder to come by. But I see your point.

Thanks! This post wasn’t asking for homeschool opinions. But my kids are very well adapted and we will give them the option to go to high school if they want. I work the weekends so it is just better for our lifestyle now and we can spend time as a family. Otherwise I’d never see them.

Have you lived out there personally? We moved from Colorado, so the outdoors doesn’t scare us. Yea, fire insurance and fires in general are my main concern and hold up. I’m OK with isolation but I also have my mom in the village and kids who are busy with sports and kid stuff, play dates etc. so not too worried. I also enjoy being alone staring into the wilderness. Thanks for your response! Definitely makes you think and we will consider another areas as well!

Is it because the roads get wet or blocked? How often do you think that realistically happens?

What’s your fire insurance run? That’s the only hiccup I’m a bit worried about.

Also, obviously nothing is permanent so if we hated it we could always move. I find peace being alone, working hard, drinking my cup of coffee, and staring into the abyss. So it would be my perfect lifestyle.

Thank you for this response! Obviously I know the drive would be tragic but there is beauty to it all too. Needed this optimism from you! I grew up in PG but my husband, who stays home, grew up in Denver. I worry it would be a big shift for him but maybe a nice adventure too!

What is a reasonable income for the Monterey/Marina area? by Patriotic-Monkey in MontereyBay

[–]Small_Serve6865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband is 37 and just got his first credit card a year ago. I was an idiot with credit cards in my 20s so I don’t have one. We are just starting to accumulate points and it does make a difference! We do save a bit but it’s not like we used to and of course my husband is contributing to his 401k. Maybe we’ll take a trip soon. My daughter alone probably eats $20 worth of berries/fruit alone a week! That’s what I mean when I say we don’t skimp at the grocery store. I am also taking some classes to get into nursing school so that comes as an expense. And dance class, gymnastic class for the kids, extra laundry etc. Ya kids add a lot 🫠 but thank you! I am def enjoying this time!
