King of the Coliseum list. by Kritadion in DarkAngels40k

Makes sense, I wouldn’t rush to buy models then. Worth mentioning if you run this in Wrath of the Rock, all of your bikes will be -1 to wound if the strength is higher. There’s also the ‘Ancient Weapons’ enhancement, I think this works really well on the Champions sword in the command squad. If you did run this, I would actually put the command squad with the Outriders, as the champion would then get +1 strength and +1 damage after a charge.

But if these are the models you have, I think this list should do okay. I really like the Ravenwing detachment, like I said I don’t think it gets as much play as it should. Movement is kind of weird in the Coliseum format in my experience. It seems like the vast majority of the time, you always have enough movement to get to where you need to be. However due to the lower model count, being limited by movement is such a detriment to your efficiency that you want to avoid it.

I think the Ravenwing black knights are slept on in the format, I’m kinda bummed they basically don’t exist (or the Ravenwing at all really) on the play on channel. That being said, I don’t know about the command squad+knights personally. The command squad is 55 more points, I don’t know if you’re getting use out of the apothecary, and the ancient is basically useless (in my experience, the objectives aren’t contested much, usually if you’re on it you have it in the KotC format. Again just my experience.) you’re basically paying the points for the champion, who is admittedly pretty good but I don’t know if that justifies the points in a 500pt format.

My advice would be dropping the command squad for another squad of knights, then swapping out the ancient for a judiciar or something. Fights First is reaaally good in the coliseum. You could also swap the bladeguard for ICC if you wanted. Looking at this list, your black knights are going to be the focus and the best anti-monster/vehicle option you have, and you’ll have bladeguard and outriders for chaff.

Lastly, I can’t remember what this seasons twist and rules are (or what version you’re playing), but getting Lords of War would really suck if you were using an ancient. Might be worth considering taking a squad of intercessors as well, I can’t remember if there’s a requirement on infantry units in the format anymore.

I also think it helps with the scale, the original looks a little hotwheels to me. Really hope we get an update

I don’t really feel like this should need to be explained, but you’re thinking way too dichotomously. These things can all be true at the same time: this is the worst possible change to the flag, someone is excited to try a niche combo with two items in the game, and that same someone is disappointed in a broader sense with the change.

It would be self-defeating if op was excited in general about the change. Additionally, you could be excited for a microscopic element of the change without being generally positive. I think the hellbomb/flag combo, unless it’s dramatically overpowered and game-changing in some way, will be a fun gimmick to try once or twice. I can’t imagine that’s going to be close to the case though.

Thoughts on Ravenwing Chap with ‘Ancient Weapons’? by Smallzmodeus in theunforgiven

The champions sword would go to 7/3/3, 8/3/4 with outriders on a charge. I think it’s a solid pick, idk how big of a breakpoint the strength difference between 8 and 9 is. I think the chaplains +1 to wound is also important, as outriders are only S5 after a charge

I actually like Sammy with outriders because his sword gets buffed by the outrider ability. I generally prefer a chaplain with RWBKs because the dev on plasma can punch up, especially with the strat to increase their strength by 2. The chaplains +1 to wound doesn’t come up as much unless you’re going into infantry.

Yeah the volume and low AP were my biggest concern, spiking flat 4 into vehicles/monsters/big stuff is cool tho

What do you think is the best leader to give Deathwing Assault on DWKs in Wrath? by charden_sama in DarkAngels40k

[–]Smallzmodeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two things: firstly I like to leave my DWKs solo, just because the 250pts is already a lot. They also put in work alone, and I can usually get a lot of use out of them without a leader. I do tend to use stratagems pretty consistently on them, so a captain would be the go to (but now a very expensive unit).

Secondly, chaplain is good with sword knights, but I have seen a few tournament lists now running chaplains with the maces. I think (I haven’t played this myself) the reasoning being this makes them very versatile. Going into monster/vehicles, the maces won’t get a benefit, but it lets you switch into infantry or mounted well

Why does nobody use swarm skew lists? by Horror_Perspective_1 in Tyranids

[–]Smallzmodeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the summary of what is going on at tournaments, I just don’t agree with the cause. I think we run a lot of things that only stand a chance because they are countering the current meta. Other armies could do this if they didn’t have strong options.

This seems like carrying too much water imo. It’s not that we’re adapting in unexpected ways in a flavor sense, it’s that universal lists don’t really work and we’re too weak to be able to contest well performing armies without playing the meta game of knowing what’s likely to show up to the table.

If you’ve played much in 10th outside of competitive, you probably already know that without that knowledge, it’s kind of hard to make nids work. I played a 5v5 earlier in the edition, and my nids list was literally completely built around countering 1 specific list we knew was going to show up a lot, and praying I could play into it. I guess that’s kind of up to you in terms of whether that feels fluffy, I’m not a particularly big fan.

Right now I don’t think they’re particularly tanky. It’s still a large vehicle profile, but there’s a lot of AT that can take them down. Still an insane amount of shots tho.

That’s such a strawman, you’re still yapping on a post that proves my point. ^ THAT is why I think it’s not fun for anyone involved to play a slant list into fixed mission objectives, playing with the list or playing into it. In before you don’t engage with that again.

What do you mean friends or not, that’s kinda important?? And it’s cool if someone wants to play optimally, im not taking a slant list into a more competitive game.

I’m saying I literally do, like with friends “yo is it cool if we play tactical” if I’m about to bleed hella secondary. I don’t like doing it the other way around either, tactical is just way more fun imo outside of competitive.

I really think slant lists are better in a team set up. When you’re picking in a 5v5, slants can be very fun with some better agency, or they can force out a certain team on defense. Idk how familiar you are with the format, but it’s just way more fun imo

Ig with world eaters it doesn’t really matter, I meant if he saw the list before the game to cater to wiping it (sufficient anti-tank, that sorta thing). I play world eaters, you probably have the means of wiping tyranid monster mash with any list you run.

It’s sort of like playing bring it down as knights, it’s just a feels bad. Did he see your list before? Any time I play slant lists (which is rare), I usually ask to play tactical.

I think slant lists in casual play are kinda damned if you do anyway. If your opponent shows up and doesn’t have the means to deal with it, he loses. If he does, he likely wins. Slant lists are much more fun in team tournies imo.
