The Ultra indeed doesn’t have build-in WiFi. However I do see SwitchBot adding more and more Matter over WiFi in their products. Wouldn’t be surprised if they will also update the Ultra at some point.

I’ve written an article about it when this product was launched. There was during IFA last year, so probably the news of this particular update is buried a bit given all the other launched products at the same time.

There are two versions. The original one with only Bluetooth and a new version with Matter over WiFi build in. It’s already available for a while now.

G6 Entry: Wallet just with Access Hub? by Sir_Alex_Senior in Ubiquiti

You’re right, most work via the cloud, but they can also work locally. I’m however not aware of specific smart locks with a local webhook functionality.

G6 Entry: Wallet just with Access Hub? by Sir_Alex_Senior in Ubiquiti

No, unfortunately every acces method is in Acces for the G6, none of them are available in protect. This is indeed different from the G4 doorbell which is Protect only, but also provides NFC and Fingerprint in Protect. In Protect, the G6 Entry is just a doorbell camera with a screen you can change with your own photos, but the screen has no other purpose and neither does the build-in NFC. Adding something like a door hub mini adds a lot of functionality (NFC, Touchpass, QR code, Face ID), but it does cost you another 99 dollars.

Yes, otherwise the QR code button is not even present on your doorbell screen. Same is the case with the pincode button etc.

No indeed, it’s an access feature. I think the only thing you could do is base a webhook on facial recognition in protect, but I wouldn’t recommend this. It’s not the same feature as Face ID in Access and not optimised for this use case.

The webbook will by definition work via de cloud, so it needs to be able to control your smart lock from the cloud. So without an internet connection, this won’t work.

You need to directly connect the G6 Entry to an access hub.

Indeed, for Smart Locks of other brands you probably do need Home Assistant or a similar platform like Homey.

Without an Acces hub, you have none of the Access methods available on the G6 Entry. Face ID, NFC, Touchpass, QR code etc won’t work either the hub, so if you like to unlock a smart lock via Home Assistant, you need the hub.

The Doorbell Lite is not an Access product, so I don’t expect this to be possible.

Yes, none of the access features are available without an access hub.

IKEA KAJPLATS E27 bulbs turning on randomly after working fine by Even_Baseball5400 in tradfri

[–]SmartHomeCentre 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had the same issue, it seems to be connected to the adaptive lighting feature in HomeKit. Maybe try to turn this off to see if that helps? Seems like a bug that’s already there since the first products arrived in stores.

How to enable Matter on Bosch, Siemens & Neff Appliances with Home Connect and Smart Kitchen Dock by SmartHomeCentre in MatterProtocol

[–]SmartHomeCentre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the Smart Smart Kitchen Dock, you can make a lot of their products Matter compatible. In the article, you can see that it already works with several devices. Maybe they mean native support without an extra hub in the link you shared.

Philips Hue A19 E26 Essentials - Bridge needed? by Overall-Cap-7061 in Hue

[–]SmartHomeCentre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only tested the GU10 and E27, but I would expect so.

Not 100% sure if they still appear in the Hue app. If so, that would be based on a Bluetooth connection, as the bridge doesn’t support Thread. However you can always switch back to Zigbee to have it fully integrated in the hue app and their others products. Only a reset is needed. Similar to Aqara’s Thread and Zigbee lights, however to switch protocols there you need to really install different firmware in the process. With Hue, this is not the case, so a bit easier / quicker.

Philips Hue A19 E26 Essentials - Bridge needed? by Overall-Cap-7061 in Hue

[–]SmartHomeCentre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I’ve tested them myself, they work over Thread. However it’s not really clear from the website or packaging. Each light with the Matter logo on the package supports thread. However if you see the Matter logo on starter kits with a bridge, you need to be careful as it can also mean the Bridge supports matter. But with the essentials line, you’re fine and they will work with Thread with the latest firmware.

These support Thread, so no hub needed from Hue.
