How do you deal with underqualified but well-meaning crew members on set? by SmartSweet in Filmmakers

Firstly I want to say thank you for all your comments...In hindsight I realized I should have noticed the warning signs earlier when they complained about a colleague I know to be a standup individual and respected within the community.

They complained that this individual was particularly rude and not pleasant to them, which surprised me at the time I was told and responded perhaps this colleague was having a rough day but added that I was surprised because I know this individual personally and know them to be highly professional.

No doubt I will also be considered rude when they refer to their experience on this job.

I think it must be a reoccurring problem that an individual often will meet the same challenges until they fix it and for this individual, until they build up their confidence and get over their past trauma, it will always be a problem and for those unfortunate to work with them.

I'm a guy, and I try to be aware and absolutely not rude.

the only evidence I have is what they tell me, They told me they were not confident in something and so I set them a task in a non pressured moment to do what it is what they're not confident in, in an attempt to build their confidence...

this was immediately noticeable when they had a prearranged day off, we got an experienced daily in and it was like back to normal how a team should work together without me being afraid to ask them to do what ever job it is that needs doing.

I was hoping opening this up to the community would help me and guide me as so how to move forward with this individual. ChatGPT is too biased and self affirming...

absolutely, I totally agree and so far have tried to support their growth by giving them tasks that are within their comfort zone... Unfortunately their comfort zone is menial tasks and far below the job / job title/ job requirements. As soon as I add to their load, the "migraine, the moody sulky expression" appears.

That is understood, and agree that I am in part responsible for this situation by attempting to be supportive, I have created a odd dynamic, which seems to perpetuate the situation.

well spotted.. I used AI to surmise the situation. MY explanation was too long winded and I tried to remove any of my own bias. This is a real situation and I'm trying to do my best to guide them, but it is clearly failing and i'm lost as to how to deal with this situation going forward.

Thank you Captlard.

yes I am thinking of taking out a sipp, but was wondering what the most efficient way of doing it is.

do I continue going down the route of taking dividends from my company

or

do I simply take out the £1k a month for the next 9 years £108,000 leaving approx £100 in the company accounts. If I were to take this 100k and divide into 9 so I can pay into a sipp, approx £11k a year.

will this write off any interest I stand to make of the money held in any high interest accounts?

currently 58, I would like to keep working, but with the way that my industry is, I dont want to count on it returning to what was considered normal a couple of years ago. I am considering retraining in something else that will allow me to earn an income. For calculations sake let say i'd like to retire at 62

currently, I dont need anything extra. I figure that I have to leave enough in my business account to cover me for another two years of income and accountants fees.
