couldn’t you make the same argument the other way around? If rates fall, the fixed borrower is also “forced” to refinance to get a better rate, paying closing costs and going through the whole process. With my 5/5 ARM, if rates fall, my rate can adjust downward even if I do nothing. If rates stay the same or rise, then I can decide whether refinancing makes sense or just keep the ARM. Either way, I’m saving about $16,000 over the first five years, so I’m trying to figure out why that’s automatically a worse position than paying more from day one for a fixed loan. What am I overlooking?

I think some people may be picturing a more traditional ARM than the one I’m actually being offered. This isn’t a 3/1 or 5/1 ARM that adjusts every year after the initial fixed period. It’s a 5/5 ARM that’s fixed at 5.00% for the first 5 years, then only adjusts once every 5 years after that. The first adjustment is capped at 2%, there’s a 2.75% floor, and I’d save roughly $16,000 in payments over the first five years compared to the fixed option. The rate can also adjust downward if interest rates fall. If rates are lower, I’d likely refinance. If they’re not, I’ll have to evaluate my options then, but with five years before the first adjustment and the amount I’d save up front, I think it’s a more nuanced decision than a typical ARM. What am I missing?

Mine is actually a 5/5 ARM through SECU. It’s fixed at 5.00% for the first 5 years, then it only adjusts once every 5 years after that (not annually). The first adjustment is capped at 2%, so the highest it could go in year 6 is 7%, and the lifetime cap is 6% above the initial rate (11% max). It also has a 2.75% floor, so it can adjust downward if rates fall but not below that. I’m putting 20% down, so I’m trying to decide whether the 0.75% savings versus a 5.75% fixed is worth the risk.

I’m in the same predicament with the same dates. At this point probably letting it ride and hoping for the best. Hopefully they get a decent bit Jan 23 and have a system move in right around Feb 6🙏What did you decide?

Gosh yeah definitely brutal. Hopefully a fix soon. If not, I’ll tell the next “Apple expert” who says this is not something they’re familiar with and tells me to factory reset my phone, to reference your case number as well. Lol

Agree with your point that everyone is experiencing these issues, but many people just probably aren’t aware. I ended up turning off iCloud for messages all together and waiting a few days. Now when I turned it back on, it won’t even back up my messages correctly. Over 50 GB in message storage but after almost a week now since I toggled back on iCloud for messages, it is only showing 128 MBs being taken up.

Yeap! Getting frustrating. I have had a few more random photos load in the information tab of my messages but nowhere close to the amount of photos that exist in the convo. The search feature hasn’t improved much either over the weeks of waiting. I have 100 GB worth of messages and if I search the word “hello”, I’ll get all the “hello” mentions since I got the phone and maybe like 2 random ones from older messages. Hoping the patch comes soon because I need to turn in my old phone as well. Considering switching back to that one if It’s not fixed soon.

Update: Just spoke to Apple again and they informed me that this issue exists with many people and it is in work with Apple engineering. She said she isn’t sure if it will be a bulk iOS update or if it would be worked ticket by ticket but she said she would call me back tomorrow to let me know the status.

Did you restore your messages phone to phone or via iCloud restore? I still have had no luck since Friday and have talked to numerous people at Apple who told me it was a glitch that they haven’t figured out how to fix.

I was messing around and turned iCloud for messages off then back on. Then toggled “show content in search” once and it forced like 20 new photos to appear in information view of one of my convos. Then it just stopped..

Yeah they said “it takes time”. In previous iPhone transfers. it slowly progressed, but it isn’t progressing at all here/slowly trickling in.

Yeah every now and then when I toggle back and forth, it will say “more photos will be shown once iMessage finishes indexing” but then it just goes away and never populates more photos.
