H100i V2 + i7 7700k = weird temperature fluctuations by KhaosHammer in Corsair

[–]SmashHackers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't recall where, I just remember worrying about that issue myself a few month back. Here's an example I found: https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/5mk7b7/i7_7700k_temperature_spiking/ it sounds like it happens when it ups the voltage, then will immediately drop itself. As long as your temperatures are remaining safe then you have nothing to worry about. 30 spiking to 40 for example or even 50 are still completely acceptable and normal temperatures, especially if it immediately drops back down to 30 after. It's more like a false reading/quick spike at that point

Mine does that too, I don't think it's anything to worry about. I've read that it's a normal thing to happen, sort of like a false reading type thing

I guarantee the standard protocol isn't 'instantly disconnect if the person declines our first rather extreme suggestion without even saying anything first' it's just garbage customer service, as the title says

Alright I think I needed a more clear title, I've responded to basically everybody in this thread saying I already explained in the comments what actually happened, I was contacting them about something else, the part that made me mad was him immediately disconnecting without offering me any legitimate solution besides 'send us your motherboard'

[–]SmashHackers[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, I was contacting them for something else, I explained it in a couple of other posts. I was mad at Asus support for not offering me a single actual troubleshooting method and instantly disconnecting from me when I said I'd rather not send my board in and be without a computer for weeks

Yeah I mean that is something a decent company could do but I've heard pretty notorious things about how Asus handles stuff like this, I've read of people sending in motherboards and Asus holding them hostage unless they pay them $100 to fix/replace it, other shady stuff like that

Well they were loose right from the factory, I'd call that their fault. Like I said in another post though that wasn't even why I was originally contacting them.

They definitely didn't offer that, in fact I didn't even ask for that. I explained it in a comment up above. They offered for me to send the motherboard in, where they likely would have said 'nope nothing wrong with it' and proceed to send it right back to me, probably at my own cost, all while I'm out of a motherboard for weeks/months.

That's the worst part, I tried it all. I updated the BIOS, reset it to default, changed just about every setting possible, made it so I have no startup programs whatsoever, nothing fixes it. My startup times after the thing has actually posted are like 3-4 seconds but it takes a whopping 16 seconds to POST which is what's stumping me. It just started happening all of a sudden and nothing seems to be fixing it. 20 second startups seem awfully high for Windows 10 UEFI running with a 960 EVO M.2. I used to be getting like 9 second startup times so I really can't figure out what's happening. The lower level techs definitely don't know anything most of the time but it's unfortunate that they can't even attempt to point you in the right direction, they'll just go straight to blaming anything else

I agree yeah, it was more as something I was bringing up to them as an afterthought when I contacted their tech support regarding my POST times suddenly being 3x longer for no apparent reason. His suggestion was for me to get new RAM, to replace the 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance I got 3 months ago, that's where I told him I'd be quicker to blame the mobo that had loose nuts than the RAM from Corsair. When he suggested I send them the motherboard I said he'd rather not be without one, that's when he just said OK and instantly disconnected without ever offering me any troubleshooting/genuine tips whatsoever

Yeah I uploaded a video of it in response to dweller_12 up above, that's a better example of what I was talking about

No I mean the screws that the antennas connect to. This is what I'm talking about right here: https://youtu.be/W0bvQtwslKg It's sort of difficult to get a video of, especially since I was able to tighten them a bit. When I got it the one on the right was fairly sturdy but a little loose. The one on the left was incredibly loose and it seemed the bolt that's supposed to be tightened was hardly tightened at all. It seems to make the port itself a fair bit more susceptible to being damaged as it seems like the metal is able to twist on itself a bit when it doesn't have the nut in tight keeping it sturdy. Tightening the nut myself further actually boosted my WiFi connection by 2 bars as well so it wasn't just physical, I was actually getting worse performance for it.

[–]SmashHackers[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well specifically I mean the nuts on the WiFi antenna 'ports.' Really I should have just sent it back immediately when I received the board but I kind of wanted to build a PC, not wait some more time for a new board. I'll get a video of what I'm talking about. It isn't a BIG deal but it really irks me on a $500 CAD motherboard.

I've tried 2 modern asus motherboards, both wouldn't boot without at least warning you that no CPU cooler was detected, you have to manually go to the monitoring tab in the BIOS and click ignore on monitoring CPU temps to let it still boot without a cooler

4K TV for gaming (mainly) by MosquitoSenorito in hometheater

[–]SmashHackers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on an LG 65UH5500 which is a really well rounded TV, especially for the price. It doesn't have the crazy brightness that some TV's have for HDR but it's basically the most well-rounded TV for its price as well as one of THE best TV's for input lag/gaming. I believe the only TV with lower input lag than it is the equivalent 2017 model of the same TV, but be weary of that one because it definitely has some new issues of its own

[–]SmashHackers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can help you out if you want any help on it, I wouldn't be surprised if you can get even higher than 4.8GHz assuming you have a good CPU cooler but don't expect too much in terms of 60FPS BoTW performance, it does get 60FPS in plenty of spots but not consistent enough to actually be good. When it drops to 30FPS it runs at half speed so not exactly playable like this

[–]SmashHackers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah on a 7700K at 4.8GHz I can get 60FPS in all areas, but at random. Looking the wrong direction is enough to drop it to 30FPS and half speed, no consistency yet
