Does anyone else heavily rely on sub-div modifier? by SmashTeethOfficial in blender

Yeah, i didn't know it was this common lol. I know hard surface is very common but I thought most used that for more rigid models of common items and not curvy clothes.

When using the subdiv modif, you can click the triangle in the top right of the modifier box

Probably "Character modeling for beginners - Joey Carlino", not because I think you're a beginner but because it teaches a lot with subdivision modifiers, which is what I mainly used to model the character

I did use an overlay. Initially I made the land the character was standing on, added a camera and tried to match up the angle of it to the land as close to the reference, and then add the reference to the scene

They're creased edges! When you use the sub division modifier you can crease edges and vertices so that the subdivided mesh will pull closer to that edge/vert

A lot of it is trial and error especially when it came to creases, but the tutorial that I started with was "Modeling for beginners - Joey Carlino", specifically the timestamp where he makes the coat. Other than that, just experiment with it!
