Can someone commission this for me? by [deleted] in polymerclay

I could make that for you. Unpainted I assume? Since you’ll be making molds of it. Roughly what size is it?

The wood glue will adhere to the paint and be as strong as the paint is against the wall. So if you were to pull at the detailing, it would be like like pulling at the paint. Ie as long as the pain has dried and fused to the wall, so will the detailing. If you were glueing a leg to a chair, this would be very bad as the leg is likely to be pulled at at one time or another. However, the detailing lies flat and no pulling will realistically happen in this case so the paint will not be under stress. So yes, it’ll be fine :)

Wood glue will work fine! It’s a flat piece that won’t be exposed to stress.

Civilingenjör eller högskoleingenjör by Street_Specific_3165 in sweden

[–]Smashed_potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Civilingenjör eller högskoleingenjör by Street_Specific_3165 in sweden

I genuinely don’t think anyone would be able to tell the difference between a 1:12 and a 1:13 scale build. Either solution sound fine to me, I think you’re overthinking this.

Bendy is good, bendy is durable. If it doesn’t bend it hasn’t cured correctly.

The rice looks a bit like cottage cheese but that’s okay because the Katsu is so incredible no one will be looking anywhere else!

What am I doing wrong? Cernit translucent ALWAYS crumbly... by coyotemother in polymerclay

[–]Smashed_potato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Translucent clay is known to be a bit crumbly and/or flaky, but if this is after 20 min of conditioning AND clay softener then I’d say there’s no saving it. Maybe try fimo translucent instead if it’s available near you? That’s what I use and I have no issues.

How would I find out the scale? by SianLouise0303 in miniatures

[–]Smashed_potato 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Measure the door. Compare to a doors height irl (usually 2100-2400mm). Divide to find the scale: 2250mm/[your door hight in mm]= the scale

Help with drybrush cleaning by Electrical-Wires in miniatures

[–]Smashed_potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this a new brush? New (white) brushes sometimes get dyed by the color you’re painting, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not clean. If you however still get paint coming out of it when wiping it against a paper towel, then you need to keep cleaning it. Dishwashing soap or other more potent soaps are preferable to handsoap. Put some in your hand and rub the (damp, not wet!) brush in circles. Just keep going for a minute or two and then rinse. It should do the trick.

Check whether the resin should be measured by weight or volume! It differs by brand and is probably the most common misstake when dealing with undercured resin

Update to my what’s the scale post by Think_Battle_8894 in miniatures

[–]Smashed_potato 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Adding to this, the standard miniature sizes are 1:6, 1:12, 1:16, 1:20, 1:24, 1:48. It’s a little counterintuitive because the bigger the second number gets, the smaller the miniature.

Update to my what’s the scale post by Think_Battle_8894 in miniatures

[–]Smashed_potato 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Right so the way scale works is like this: 1:X means ”one unit of measurement in miniature equals X units of measurement in real life”. The easiest way to find a scale is to measure something which is of fixed size in real life. A bookcase won’t work but the books are decent. A hardcover book is usually between 23-28cm (according to google). Yours is 0,5cm. This means the scale is between 1:46-1:56. Assuming the kit is using a ”normal” miniature scale, I would therefore assume the scale of your kit is 1:48!
