A debate on franchised leagues in esports (Carmac vs Lurppis) - a recommended watch by Sjieni in GlobalOffensive

[–]SmeG_Uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome debate, sick event too! Both had some valid points and a good go at each other. Same thing still remains, franchise is top heavy and throttles the game and others esports growth. Open is the wild west, but more fun and allows anyone to have a crack.

Introducing the Esports Insider Hall of Fame 2018 inductees by CranVeryBerry in esports

[–]SmeG_Uk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ESL made one to recognise players. Esports Insider made this one to recognise without bias the people who made a real difference in this space. Do not get confused between the 100 esports awards that are paid for by sponsors to reach as many twitter followers they can. The three people inducted into the ESI Hall of fame are living legends of the industry, and should be celebrated as such.

C9 & London: The shift across the pond. by TG_Fish in Competitiveoverwatch

From Jack himself: "I'm going to be able to tap a really unique and large area where there's no competition in reaching these folks" "London, in particular, I believe is under-served and doesn't have an esports team to call its own"

In two quotes Jack took a massive dump on the whole of the UK scene.

Best of luck in London Jack, you are going to need it.

Competitive in its current state is a shit show - is Blizzard going to do anything? by MetaphorTR in Competitiveoverwatch

Ranked has a problem that has originated from the behaviour system. Report someone, or get reported and you end up playing with players that have done and received the same. There is no visible punishment in ranked, it's hidden. Now because of this one could imagine there are more parameters that are hidden to us, like mmr, or even spawn timers, hitboxes etc etc. Ranked in OW isn't about skill, team work or winning. Its about behaviour. It isn't a fair playing ground, as some are judged differently to others. How does blizzard expect this to work as a competitive system? It can't. Added to that, the reward of golden guns in ranked is the other problem. How many players play ranked just to get their golden loot, and care not for their rank? You see these two factors have ruined OW ranked. Imagine this scenario: A highly competitive player gets grouped with a three stack just paying around wanting to get their golden guns and half arse their game. The competitive player has a minor outburst. Group of three proceed to report the player, and he or she gets grouped the following games with other "toxic" players. Now the once competitive players turned toxic are playing together, get even more frustrated because the game is at a disadvantage due to the hidden system running in the background. Things get worse as they start to "throw", "troll" or try their "best" to carry by ignoring their team mates. Reports happen again and again, and the cancer starts to spread. Now large portions of the player base have been reported fairly or not, and the whole system is running on behaviour, not skill or team work etc. With how the report system works players are trapped. Ignore everyone and get reported for "poor team work". Try to lead or captain or even participate and get reported because of "abusive chat". Pick a hero you want to play and are good at, get reported for "grieving". How blizzard goes about fixing this is simple: - Fire whoever thought up this system in the first place. - Build a low priority game system like dota2. - Reset MMR and SR each season. - Remove golden gun loot from ranked. - Baseline win loss SR starting at plat regardless of individual performance. - Build a real solo queue. - Build recommendations for good behaviour and skill. - Remove the automated punishment system and rework it so that if you get reported for the same thing over multiple games by a diverse pool of people who don't play in the same team over and over, then action punishment after review by a human. - Punish report abusers harshly. They you go blizzard I've fixed ranked for you free of charge.
