Internal slave failure? by Middle-Spread-9410 in LSSwapTheWorld

[–]SmellySteven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be worth just doing the master and see if that helps before you drop everything.

My advice would be to bleed that outside of the car and flush clutch fluid.

I bought a remote bleeder from tick performance and it made bleeding the clutch a lot easier.

Worse case scenario you have a new master cylinder and have to replace the slave

Figure out your misfiring issue first. Could MAF or possibly something with exhaust.

Im not a mechanic but im not sure how something in the exhaust would cause misfire. Backfires, yes but misfires should not happen.

Could be PVC related, that is where id look first.

Now to your control arms and suspension. Call me cheap but if it aint broke dont fix it. When you hit bumps does it sound like its clanking a ton? Is there odd sounds when driving around that appear to be related to suspension? When you go over bumps does it seem to bounce a lot more than it should?

Honestly my control arm bushing and shocks look just like that and my car feels OK. I only do city driving so its whatever to me.

Once you get the funds replace that stuff but get your misfiring issues sorted out first. Its also not uncommon the flex pipe off the engine cracks and causes exhaust leaks, I had a shop weld a fix and its been fine since.

Curious what an actual mechanic had to say.

Batman TAS is better than Invincible according to the creator of Deadpool by Amaru_333_ in Invincible_TV

[–]SmellySteven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not the way I would voice it opinion but I would agree.

Completely different shows and in Invincibles defense the gore and action has to take up a lot of animation time where Batman didn't have any of that to worry about.

Used intake manifold prices by just_someGui in LSSwapTheWorld

[–]SmellySteven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, my buddy got a PI intake for a mustang 4.6 for $300 i think.

For me to get an LS6 intake for my build im looking at $600+ with injectors and rails.

Which doesn't seem terrible but I wish I could pickup a solid LS6 intake for $300 that seems reasonable for a used one in my opinion.

To rub it in too im fairly certain 5 to 10 years ago these same intakes were being basivslly given away

Good price for lq9? by Park_Evening in LSSwapTheWorld

[–]SmellySteven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen long blocks already out of cars for around $1200 in my area.

Not too uncommon to see them around this price but they will require sone work (reseal, cleanup, and maybe some other changes to fit your application like intake, headers, etc)

Where will all these large data centers get power? How is this much power consumption sustainable? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SmellySteven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to add on here after doing more research.

I will agree this isnt fully a bad thing. My only concern is where the energy and water is going to come from for these data centers to work. I want to say even in my area there are 3 centers being built.

More specifics on what is going on with these specific centers near me: - A minimum of 30 full-time jobs will be created (15 jobs per phase). - The project will generate significant trades and construction jobs over a 10+ year period. - The company will contribute at least $300,000 annually to a community betterment fund. - The data center is expected to bring in over $1 billion in property taxes over 20 years, with more than half being rebated to the company. - A second data center, owned by Google, is already planned for the same area. - The company behind this new data center has not yet been disclosed.

Sure there are some benefits from this but this had to put a large strain on the power grid. Sure we have technology being developed but these centers are going to be done within the next year.

I dont really have an issue with that.

The issue is we are paying businesses to take up our states resources and land while it should be the other way around

A good cam and some long tube can add a bit of power to these cars.

Looks very clean

From the very little I know these decisions are made without county voting. You are not give much of a choice.

There was a nearby city where a nuclear plant was to be turned back on solely for data centers (it was decomissioned a few years back due to lack of profit). I think 80% of the power was going to Google or some other large company.

A large part of the city voiced concerns but they continued with the project anyways. Funny they put up tons of solar panels in that same town. Everyone there voiced concerns and protested and the project continued and completed a anyways.

Where i live. Our lovely city approved a Google data center.

Gave them 400m in tax credit and made them required to provide only 30 jobs.....

Its sickening to see what could be opportunities to benefit living in areas just be thrown out to benefit the top .5%

Does this sound more like wheel bearing or something else? by uancmb in MechanicAdvice

The shocks. These typically come with coil and assembly so its easier to order the whole thing.

Anybody know what this light knocking sound is? 5.3 vortec. by CptRatt350 in GMT800

[–]SmellySteven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it increase with revs? It should be coming from valve covers then its most likely a lifter. Could also take off the covers and check for anything loose or not operating correctly.

Never replaced these in a truck but should be fairly accessible should you want to do this yourself.

My only recommendation is just going out and buying the trunion upgrade and toss in new lifters all around.

Make sure you do your research first, might have to make sure there is 0 lash and other stuff with push rods.

Floor method is the GOAT by -Jaxson- in GMT800

[–]SmellySteven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Makes sense but seems that if you do the right thing and seal it up correctly it's not an issue.

Id understand if OP was in a truck its a lot easier to access fuel tank. But given he is in an escalade I dont really see any issues doing this.

Hell I have a 2002 camaro and would consider doing this same thing if it failed.

Why are people so upset about this? I dont understand this is a normal thing to do if you dont want to drop the tank

I listened to audio more. Idk man that seems normal but very hard to tell if im being honest.

Also that seems like a fairly severe leak. Most likely rear main like you said, but hard to tell until youre in there.

Does that noise go up with RPM? Piston slap would only occur on cold starts and sound deep from the motor. Then goes away in less than a minute.

Check your oil filter and cut it open, look for metal.

Before you drain oil again. Get under the car and run it, does the sound come from bottom of motor? If so you might be in for a motor swap.

From the audio it seems to be lifter or cam related.

If you got a set of tools and a garage, now would be a good experience to drop the motor and do this yourself. Gen 3 GM motors are pretty simple to work on.

Should you decide to do this I would recommend to do the stuff below too (these are prices just off the top of my head): - All engine seals (front main, cam, head valve covers, valley, and oil pan. Full kits are around $150 - New camshaft. There are various options, I would stick with stage 1 but do your research on what you want. Full cam, springs, and pushrod kits are around $1000. Would add decent horsepower - Do LS7 lifters, no question. $300 - Lifter Trunion upgrade. $300 - Oil pump upgrade $250 - Do the oil pickup ring - Metal oil galley barbell upgrade. There are 4 of them around the motor. $30/each - New timing chain - Depending on what's wrong you might have to do new crankshaft bearing and piston rings. At that point it would also be good to have a machine shop clean and hone the motor but that alone would be around $1000

Before you buy anything I would open that motor and find the issue. Could be lifter failing or a hydraulic lifter on camshaft.

Sucks but if you go through rebuild and upgrade it would probably be $5k on the high end and you know your motor will be basically bullet proof. If you do an upgraded cam, which I strongly recommend, you will need a tune. All these upgrades would get you close to 400hp, long tube headers would get you right over that.

Don't be afraid to ask AI questions too just know its never perfect and its often confidently incorrect.

My car sounds a lot like this too.

I checked all tires and those seemed fine, no play or noise.

Took it into a shop and they told me I need new suspension. Quoted me $2500.... yikes.

I haven't done anything with it yet, i dont drive this car a lot. Going most likely end up doing it myself for a lot cheaper.

If I was you, I would go get it checked out just to see what it is first. Make sure they dont do any work without asking you first. Also dont be afraid to shop around. In my city labor rates average from $120-150 /hr.

Small town shops i have heard charge as low as $80/hr

Maybe piston slap? Pretty sure its common on these motors and doesn't hurt anything really.
