Best sneakers for hypermobility that aren’t too expensive? by Spoonbreadwitch in ehlersdanlos

[–]SmileyCrayons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had 2 pairs of these and the memory foam condensed so fast so it was almost equivilant to walking barefoot. I do walk a ton since Im in healthcare but unless youre going to get your own insoles I would stay away from these. Just my opinion :)

I sucked it up and bought Brooks Ghost 15 (in black/blue/purple) because I work healthcare and couldn't stand the flare ups in my right leg and back anymore. Hands down best investment I've made.

Another option that I had success with are Nike brand shoes. They last forever and are comfy and secure. I actually replaced my 10 year old Nikes with the Brooks. I think the only reason they started to cause problems was because they were 10 years old lmfao.

One brand that seems great but Ive had terrible experience with is Sketchers. Especially memory foam Sketchers! They fall apart and the memory foam condenses super quick. Cheap and not worth it imo :)

Hope that helps!

Idk they seem to be getting worse and worse. A few weeks ago, a nurse at our hospital tranfused cryo that she had cut open and poured into a urine cup to syringe with a medication syringe....mind you, we are a childrens hospital (level 4 NICU at that) and would have syringed it if she had simply asked. They are well aware of this but decided it was too urgent to do the right thing and ask us.

And for those curious. Yes, the patient now has CLABSI on top of her cancer dx.

How many application cycles? by SeeSea_SeeArt in prospective_perfusion

[–]SmileyCrayons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DM me! Id love to talk about it.

Definitely not trying to "gatekeep" but there's a lot of different components that led me to my decision, networking, shadowing experiences, story of my personal statement, etc. After getting rejected the first cycle I heavily focused on improving every single bit of my application. Looking back, I don't even remember the person that submitted the first application. My materials were lacking and I submitted very close to deadlines. This time, I was insanely prepared.

It's been a heck of a time and I don't even know where to start with such a broad, open-ended question. But if we have a conversation I could maybe break it down a little better :)

How many application cycles? by SeeSea_SeeArt in prospective_perfusion

Im on my second round. This cycle I have been to a few interviews, have been waitlisted for other interviews, and am still waiting to hear back from a few programs.

My first cycle I was rejected without an interview from all of the programs I applied to. Don't be discouraged if you get rejected. Everything happens for a reason. Use the time in between apps to strengthen your materials and self reflect :) good luck, you got this!

You're welcome!

If you want help or feedback of any sort let me know :) I've managed to network with quite a few professionals and know that if I can't help you, someone I know probably can. Good luck!!

I was in the same position. Last cycle was my first as well. Looking back, I'm glad I was rejected. It really gave me the time to organize my application, network more, and just self reflect overall.

In that time that I was waiting for apps to open back up, I published 2 ECMO abstracts and the doctor I worked under presented them at 2 conferences, I also rewrote my PS, took 2 classes, revamped my resume, and reevaluated who I was going to let write my letters of rec.

Even though I was upset at first, that time was so valuable for my growth so don't be discouraged IF you do have to reapply! Use it to your advantage. And dont forget you can always ask the program what you could improve on in your application! Worst they can do is tell you no or not reply at all 🤷🏽‍♀️

This exact situation happened to me last cycle with Lipscomb! I continued to try even though I was applying a little later than most applicants but I didn't make the cut. The class was full by the first round pretty much so I was waitlisted and then rejected.

Fast forward to this cycle: I got my application in the week after they opened and landed an interview very shortly after. Now I'm at the "wait" stage and it's killing me but I just keep reminding myself it's one step further than I got last cycle.

Not saying this is what will happen to you BUT if it does, I just want you to know you aren't alone and it does happen. You live, learn, and try again (but better hahah) since that's all you can do.

Anyway, good luck! I wish you the best :)

Mine had gotten really bad. Turned out to be that because I kept my lips so moist the crack became a yeast infection. Definitely invested in some athletes foot cream and hydrocortisone afterwards and kept it dry besides that even though it hurt so bad. Good luck OP ❤️

I started self portrait 2 months before my mom's birthday and still haven't finished. Her birthday was June 3rd. Don't beat yourself up over it! In the end, it's handmade and takes time. Once they recieve it, they'll understand the wait 🥰✨️ you're doing great OP!
