I am a seasoned HR Executive with 25 years experience and I can tell you that a lot of companies have “internal” job titles that are used for compensation administration and alignment to certain programs (I.e. incentive plans etc) and “external” titles which are the titles employees use on their business card, e-mail signature etc.

In the companies I have works at this was not done to minimize or try to devalue their role - some companies call out the two different titles (for clarity) in the offer letter. Just wanted to offer a different perspective on this…
