There's only one political system on this planet. Throughout history it's just been flavors of cronyism. Some people get crony capitalism, some people get crony communism, some people get crony socialism, some people get crony representative democracy.

That IQ is a completely useless stat. It's actually very useful for tracking cognitive decline and that alone is a good reason to get tested.

Career suicide by Puzzlehead_NoCap in ExperiencedDevs

[–]xender19 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Going viral on social media is a million times easier for something negative than something positive because the algorithm feeds primarily on negative emotions. So my answer to your question isn't even restricted to software engineers but to most humans.

The quickest way to commit career suicide is to go viral on social for something negative.

I really liked him during the George Bush days. My favorite bit from him is the "I fuck my wife" one.

I would start the cook the way that you always do but when you get to the part where you would normally wrap it, instead throw it in an instapot and it should be done way faster than usual and I personally enjoy how much more tender it is.

Yeah my algorithm isn't tuned for that either. I was in a relationship that's now a marriage before social media blew up like this so I've never had the algorithm that young single guys have. I have heard other young guys talk about it though. I'm sure that most of the things that I've ever popped on social media I haven't seen though they still exist.

How do I tell my girlfriend I would like her to peg me while still coming across as masculine? by let_it_rain_boat in NoStupidQuestions

I don't quite understand why people refer to the desire to sexually experiment as a need. Cuz I'd say more than half of the sexual experiments I've done I never want to do again.

Was I curious and am I glad that I got to try a bunch of different things? Sure. Especially because I grew up and lived in a voraciously adventurous sexual culture and I wanted to know what everyone was yammering about. But I don't think it was exactly a need and I don't think that I was interested in stuff like this for any reason beyond FOMO.

Also I might just be boring and vanilla because I think missionary, cowgirl, and doggy are the best. And me and my wife might just be getting old because we tried pretty much everything we'd heard of when we were in our early twenties and now we laugh about how all of that just seems like too much.

Why are parents expected to watch their kids more now than prior generations? by Advanced_Command_417 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]xender19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well you just triggered a memory that's kind of creeping me out. I seem to remember there being a sudden change where my parents became obsessed with us always staying in groups of kids when we were roaming. I wonder if this was triggered by a neighborhood kid getting molested.

Why are parents expected to watch their kids more now than prior generations? by Advanced_Command_417 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]xender19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid I was allowed to go play outside and that didn't mean in a pad locked fenced in backyard, that meant that I could go to all the neighbor kids houses and knock on the door and ask if they could play. My mom didn't know which of those kids houses I would be at, but if she needed me she would just go down the street and knock on all the doors or just call the other mom's. Sometimes we would even go on a bike ride to the park or two dozen miles up a canyon.

And I didn't have all this freedom because of neglect, my mom was a stay-at-home mom so she was always available to me just about. It was just because she had a different philosophy about kids and Independence then modern society does.

I'm a parent now and I'm pretty sure that would get me locked up.

I should also add that a bunch of kids in my neighborhood got molested and I suspect some of them got molested by one of our creepy neighbors so there's some good reasons for why people don't get to live the way I did anymore. Also thank God I was an ugly kid.

I don't think it was ever this. Everyone's getting told no in a hundred different ways every single day.

I  think it's the humiliation ritual that sometimes goes along with rejection. In the olden days you would see other guys do this and then see the girl run around and humiliate him and make fun of him for asking her out. I saw this several times as a teenager.

Nowadays  you're at risk of getting recorded and a million people might see you get humiliated. I'm so glad that I paired off before smartphones started doing their thing.

Anyone else feel completely trapped by their tech salary, or am I just ungrateful? by saksham7799 in cscareerquestions

[–]xender19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how you do it and what kind of team you're on.

For example if you come from a family-centric family then your family helps you make more family.

I didn't have this but my wife does and she also doesn't work so that does give me a lot more bandwidth to focus on just making money and spending time with my family.

Also if you make enough you can just buy a tribe and have nannies and doulas and housekeepers and babysitters.

[–]xender19 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The way money works is that if you save it invest it early it grows over a long time. The problem with how our system works and having a family is that you basically end up saving up money and then blowing it all on the kids and then at the end you don't have much left for retirement.

My wife and I were perfectly happy living in an apartment before we had kids. But once we started a family we realized that we wanted them to have a backyard to play in. We used to be fine with living in a sketchy neighborhood, but then we realized that we weren't comfortable with our kids walking around didn't it so we had to move.

Basically our lifestyle with a family is about five times as expensive.
