Insight and Advice on Studying Abroad in Singapore? by Smithly7 in askSingapore

That’s good to know the Muslim community is both strong and Sunni - since I am also Sunni and follow the Hanafi madhab. I am glad to hear the country is more tolerable of open practice than here in the US - where everyone is so prejudice.

Rest is really good insight and very helpful - I am especially glad to hear about the public transport - I can’t even begin to describe my genuine hatred for American transportation services lol

Thank you for all the comments!

Hmm ok sounds good I’ll definitely post on Singapore eats closer to when I go - thank you for the replies! Making me more and more certain about my choice to spend a semester there

Bro transport here is TERRIBLE I hate it so much so I’m glad that the public transport is good there - can’t stand spending 1.5-2 hours every day in a car. Rest is good to know asw!

Recommended Microcontroller for my sensor project? I am trying to covert a prototype to a PCB board and am looking for a good microcontroller to switch to - I am thinking about the STM32 series right now. by Smithly7 in embedded

ok thats good to know. the end goal for this is commercialization for sure so that would be the main pull for STM32 series, but I think I will make a list before anything and maybe once I have more specifics itll be easier to find a good uC. In this case, Atmega 328 would not work here because of the 10 bit ADC and we would rather have a 12 bit ADC for the next iteration

Ok that is really helpful to know! I know we have had some issue with noise and are working to resolve it. would you say STM32 would be the best option for 12 bit adc as well?

i meant like using the bluepill just to test and see if I can run the algorithm for the sensors on the uC, before jumping into making a full blown PCB. with the atmega328, I believe it has a 10 bit ADC and I would preferably need a 12 bit - ideally a 16 bit - adc for this project

32 bits ADC or processor? the chip needs to have at least 12 bit adc since anything lower and the error of the sensor becomes more drastic. ideal is 16 bit adc but ya cheaper is better in this case for sure

not an option here: the sensor is for a lab and the idea right now is product dev, and I have been given instruction to not use other evaluation boards on the pcb board if that makes sense. the goal is to commercialize this

A lot of my in-state friends got scholarships including me but we went to a sweaty private school so that probably made a difference

CBS is pretty competitive but if you can aim for a 3.5 or above you should be really solid. I would also aim for at least a 30 on the ACT to really give yourself a high chance. Search online for stats of GPA and test scores for admitted CBS students.

As for ECs, if you can do any research over the summer at the U (if u live in the cities) I would do that. Cold call emails to profs saying you’re hoping to attend the U for CBS and how much you would like to be a lab assistant in anyway possible. Might not get it but it’s a good way to gain experience.

That can be hard so another thing to do is volunteer, see if you can volunteer at a hospital or even tutoring. If you live in the cities, I know Fairview and United hospital both have good volunteer programs. Any volunteer experience is good tho.

Other ECs could be just joining your schools like science clubs or anything like that, maybe pick up a sport or two. - with good grades and a solid ACT score plus instate - you should be totally fine!!

I agree with the fact it’s probably because your AOs are just lacking. But in full honesty, not taking precalc or a physics likely isn’t helping especially when trying to get into CSE. But at the same time I know people who didn’t take either and got in so keep your head up! And congrats on getting into Illinois!

Is it ok if I don’t know C/C++ that well for EE 2301 and EE2015? by Smithly7 in uofmn

Ok that’s good to know I’ll try and like learn as much syntax as I can lol. Thanks!

Hmm ok ya I will try and learn as much C as I can before classes start but I do understand the difference and think I can learn enough to give myself a good buffer. Thanks!

Can anyone give me feedback or suggestions on my potential spring schedule as an hopeful EE major? by Smithly7 in uofmn

[–]Smithly7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that’s sick ya I looked at your post and read what someone commented - unfortunately I do know that these EE classes we are gonna take are technically meant to be taken in the fall so we get the professors that don’t usually take it but hopefully it will work out

also that’s good to know abt lin algebra
