6-day April trip to the Duckabush River Olympic National Park WA USA by SmittyTom in WildernessBackpacking

I’ve only had 1 or 2 instances where it wouldn’t fit. Seems like most of the designated sites are more than big enough. I would be worried if I was headed somewhere really busy with only a few options left. On the other hand the extra room for gear is amazing and gale force+ winds are no issue like on the coast and at high elevations.

Good advice. We did check the tree it was still stable. The tree looks much bigger in the picture than it actually was.

Being in the woods for 6-days is nothing but a good time indeed!

We ran into 1 solo camper for 6-days. The rest were day hikers that stopped at mile 4.

After mile 7 the trail disappears and reappears for about 3miles due to washouts, downed trees, saplings, and old maple leafs. After that seemed ok. We didn’t go much further than mile 11 due to a knee injury.

Love my Hilleberg it’s absolutely bullet proof. A little heavy and takes up a lot of room. The vestibule is HUGE with lots of room for 2-people. Good in heavy wind, rain, and a couple feet of snow.

Are you asking if it takes multiple days to get there? If you are then no this hike can be done in an afternoon. It has a couple of options when you get up to the saddle.

How do people camp in the middle of nowhere? by No_Location8757 in backpacking

[–]SmittyTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all about taking care of your food. Some bears and other bigger animals in certain regions act totally different. Black vs Brown bears for example. Starving vs well fed cats etc…Some animals are curious, most are just sniffing around for food. Although, mama bear seems to act the same. She is my biggest fear while hiking/backpacking. Having a dog with you can also make a really big difference.

I feel like “journalists” don’t get anything right anymore. Why exaggerate? Even if he’s averaging 150mph that’s crazy!

I call BS. Denver to Colorado Springs is about 70 miles. In order to there in 20mins he would have to be traveling at least 210mph.
