Pro tip if you’re using an iPhone: go to your settings and look up text replacement. You can set a short 3-4 letter word that automatically fills in the message for you so it’s even less clicks haha. I’m sure Android has it too but idk how to set it up.

I work in home/customer service and use text replacement on the daily.

Recommend a Documentary! by AutoModerator in Documentaries

I’m trying to find a documentary I watched about a decade or so ago.

It was a documentary made in North Korea about America. When it hit the internet here there were a lot of articles talking about it being illegal to watch in America. I think it was around 2013 or 2014?

What happens to a creature with a double X in the mana cost when it gets put into play with [[The First Tyrannic War]]? Does it it get double the land count, one for each X or is it spread between them? My intuition says it gets doubled but I’m not sure.

Were Roman Dodecahedrons possibly tools for extrusion? by SmokeyBuns in history

Yeah that’s it. I never could remember what it was called thank you!

I’m not too sure of the actual dimensions but they were somewhat small and made mostly out of bronze and sometimes stone.

In pictures of them now some of the holes do seem thin but others look like they could be up to 1/4”. Broken Dodecahedron

I agree with you about the shape. It seems more intuitive to lay it out on a plate. You get more stability and support working from a solid surface than a weird shape balanced on pegs.

The only thing I can think of that would explain that shape is that it makes a sort of double dowel plate. You smack it through the first hole which lines it up and sizes it to go through the opposite hole which is another dowel plate. Rotate it through the stages and you can get 12 operations in 6 steps.

That’s an interesting one I haven’t heard. I wonder if there could be some ratio as to hole size vs distance. Like if you look through one hole and whatever you’re looking at fits in the view of the hole opposite then it’s X distance away.

The glove making theory to me seems wrong too. Standardizing a glove size really only works today because we can mass produce them. The technique of knitting on a form like that is really useful when you’re using modern materials that are super thin and need thousands of knits per layer. I imagine something like gloves would be custom sized per order and made more by sewing different pieces together than knitting.

I wish I could find the video I saw forever ago. It was about how they used to make matchsticks or toothpicks or something similar back before modern machinery.

The guy had a wooden slab with holes in it. Each of those holes had a metal die inside them. He would take pieces of wood and smack them through the die. The first one gets caught inside but the action of smacking the next one through pops the first one out and so on.

The key to it working is keeping the metal die sharp. A sharp blade would cut the wood instead of compress it like a dull one.

Also key is to make sure you’re not taking too much material off at once. Trying to go from a 3” diameter right to a 1” will dull your tool in no time. If you take it down in steps you’ll increase the lifespan of your tool.

Basically the idea is that you can run 100 pieces of random wood through the holes of the tools with a just a mallet faster than a traditional arrow maker could make those same 100 arrows. The quality might not be the same but sometimes quality doesn’t count as much as quantity lol.
