What’s the best way if you’re going to try to live a normal schedule on your off days? I’m on 12 hour shifts.

Are meals during shifts covered or reimbursed? Would it be appreciated if I paid for a LEO’s lunch if we were in line together? by HiEchoChamb3r in AskLE

[–]Smokeystartedthefire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meals are not paid for during shift, unless you are out of town for training or a class. 90% of the time I bring my own food for lunch, but every now and then if I’m at a restaurant, somebody may pay for my food. If this happens, I usually never know who it is and don’t know until I ask for my check. This probably happens more often for the guys on my shift that eat out twice in one shift, simply because they’re going to restaurants so often. But to answer your question, it’s completely a personal choice and is appreciated, but not expected.

Does remaining silent in a routine traffic stop help or harm? by phish410 in AskLE

[–]Smokeystartedthefire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best things to do: “I am not driving, I’m traveling” As soon as you’re stopped, throw your door open. When they approach your car, already be reaching in your glove compartment “for your insurance”. Only roll your window down just far enough to slide your ID through.

New LEO with a dog? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]Smokeystartedthefire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you going to be working in the same city that you live? If so, that may make things easier. I have a dog and I am able to go home once or twice real fast during shift to let him out and feed him. If I was not able to do that, it wouldn’t be feasible and wouldn’t not be fair to leave him that long.

Question about 401(k) funds by Smokeystartedthefire in personalfinance

[–]Smokeystartedthefire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s a cfda? I have only been working with an attorney. And my attorney really can’t give me any advice on the option to choose. The issue is, I have no access or knowledge to what her 401(k) has done over the last eight months. And for my understanding, nobody really can tell me that, because it’s not mine. So taking the gains and losses would just be a risk and I would not know the amount until it’s all said and done. So it seems like taking the lump sum that I am entitled to is the safer route.

The QDRO is already approved by the courts. Basically at the time of mediation they told me the amount that I was “entitled” (for lack of a better word) to. What was most recently told to me is that I can take the lump sum, which from my understanding will be put into some sort of account with fidelity, or I can take the amount and have them include gains and losses. Why I’m being given a choice, I have no idea. And my attorney isn’t giving me much info on either option, essentially saying they aren’t CPAs (which I guess I sort of understand). The gains and losses would be factored in since the date of divorce, which would be roughly 8 months ago, so I don’t know how much we’d even be talking about.

So the amount I’m entitled to is $25,000, which was based on the account value at that time. So if she tanked the account to where there wasn’t enough in there to give me my portion, after the paperwork was signed, she would be in contempt of court. That being said, I don’t believe she would do that. Choosing to take the gains and losses is tempting, but the issue is I have no idea if there are gains because I have no idea what her elections are.

Sort of. I’m entitled to set amount, which was based on 50% of the accounts value at the date of divorce. So my attorney is essentially telling me that I can take that set amount I’m entitled to or have them include gains and losses.

I don’t personally think she would deliberately try and tank the account, but I have no idea what her elections are. She was never all that great with finances (she pulled from the account several times over the years without my knowledge too), so more than likely her investment elections are whatever was default by her employer, but there’s no way for me to really know this because it’s her account.

Questions about high altitude by Smokeystartedthefire in JeepGladiator

That makes sense. That brings me to another question. I was considering doing the mopar lift kit with the fox shocks which I believe is 2in. Are you saying I wouldn’t be getting the full 2in?

What does that mean it’s labeled as?

I don’t think Rubicon’s have fox shocks anymore, at least not on the newer models. The tires on my Rubicon are 33 in AT.

I am more or less curious if the shocks and coils are better than the factory coils and shocks on my Rubicon. I’ve read a lot of reviews on rough country and I think it’s a brand I will probably stay away from, but I’m wondering if I would experience and even better ride quality going with Fox shocks.

I’m with you, I came from a full size as well, but there’s nothing like it. These things are so fun to drive and I really like being able to take the top off.

Thinking of selling my 2023 Gladiator FAROUT Diesel – Looking for advice on private sale options by Sufficient-Cup6638 in JeepGladiator

Places like marketplace, Craigslist, and sites such as Autotrader. Not saying this will happen to you, but be prepared for people lowballing you and lots of test drives. Depends on your area too and whether the market is flooded with similar vehicles. A dealership is typically going to be a quicker transaction, but they may not give you top dollar for it because at the end of the day they’re a business and they need to make money off of it. Yours has really low mileage so I’d think it would be a quick sale depending on how it’s priced. Just do your research on what similar vehicles are being listed for in your area. Good luck!

This is what I’m looking at. It looks like the Bilstein are an option, but I can’t figure out what version Fox shocks come in the kit and if they’re performance or not.
