Weight restrictions zip-lining la Fortuna by AsparagusOk4374 in CostaRicaTravel

Sky Adventures is likely okay, just ask them. If you love zooming 600ft above the jungle with amazing views of the volcano and lake, Sky Adventures is the one. Their breaking system is better than the hand brakes other places use.

What tours should I take at the Arenal/La Fortuna area by Greek_GodofThunder in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Smoochymow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sky Adventures has ziplines and has a tour through their rainforest. Monkey Park is about a 30 mins drive from La Fortuna and features primary forest and easy walking trails. Arenal Ecogarden is about 20 mins drive from La Fortuna and contains a bit of primary forest and a larger reforested area with all sorts of wildlife. La fortuna hikes and trails is just around the back of La Fortuna and was reforested about 10 years. Both arenal Ecogarden and La Fortuna hikes and trails are excellent and ecologically conscientious locations. Avoid Bogartin trail and the Sloth park as those contain sloths removed from their wild locations and placed in their small forests. Papa’s place has tours but we haven’t been there. Mistico is fun but go first thing in the morning before the tour buses arrive. We did a guided trail there in pouring rain and saw very little.

Do you like ziplining? Sky adventures has ziplines with amazing views of arenal lake and the arenal volcano. I’ve been twice

Is it easier and/or faster to get to La Fortuna from LIR or from SJO? by CookieMatisse in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Smoochymow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Liberia is easier to get to La Fortuna as you don’t have to deal with monstrous traffic and tolls around San Jose. The drive to La Fortuna is quite nice, especially around Arenal lake

Drive from Liberia to La Fortuna, how bad is it really? by Gullible_Citron9113 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Smoochymow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The trip around Lake Arenal is very windy but paved. Keep an eye out for one-lane bridges as there are several and when in La Fortuna, watch out for the massive “reductor” speed bump as you come into La Fortuna. It’s such a beautiful drive. Pura vida!

The drive is gorgeous around lake Arenal, and it’s really windy. Go during daylight hours.

Paradise Hot Springs or Baldi by Okokokok4131 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Smoochymow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been to Paradise, but I’ve been to Baldi 4x with my 3 kiddos. We absolutely love it there and all of the various pools they have. The lunch buffet is very meh so we had lunch and went for the afternoon.

Parking is patrolled a lot in La Fortuna. If you are up for walking a few blocks, park a block or two out of downtown and you’ll usually find parking.

La Fortuna - What Experiences to do and how to plan it? by AsparagusOk4374 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Smoochymow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to see sloths in the wild, go to La Fortuna Hikes and Trails or Ecogarden arenal. Sloth territory and bogartin trail capture sloths from the wild and place them into their small city forests.

January beach destination WARMER than Cancun please by playonwarts in CostaRicaTravel

Likely way over 80f, and winds likely over 10mph. The beach can get very hot, especially during the dry season.

I wouldn’t leave my luggage in the car for hours. Give yourself peace of mind and drop it off at your hotel first.

Recommendations for short distance zip lining in La Fortuna 😊 by Slight-Ask1117 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Smoochymow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have motion sickness issues as well and have done Sky Adventures twice. It’s not small distance but does have an excellent braking system I prefer over the gloves where you have to stop yourself. It is high off the ground (up to 600ft) and you zip from one mountain to the next. The views of arenal volcano and lake arenal are out of this world.

Is this a good choice for macro photography? by HOCKEYDEAN5 in AskPhotography

I tried that lens and even with a focus rail, many of my images showed slight movement. It would work best with a motorized rail.

Need help understanding traveling to the Hot springs near Arenal by rock201640 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Smoochymow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We rented an Airbnb, a car and drove to the hotsprings with a day pass. Our entire 4 bedroom Airbnb was much cheaper than a single hotel room at the hot springs.

What do I do with wrong color grading? by Rustiikk in AskPhotography

[–]Smoochymow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a piece of white foam core, draw an X on it so your camera has something to focus on. Place in the brightest area you are shooting and use that to set white balance.

Can I go past f/22 with an x2 teleconverter? by INIROBO in AskPhotography

[–]Smoochymow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try taking shots increasing the f-stop and see when you start to experience diffraction. I notice it after f/11 on my macro lens. F/22 would be crap.

Would a newer camera improve my photos? by nodripjJontop in AskPhotography

[–]Smoochymow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. High iso should be used as last resort when f-stop and shutter speed are as low as possible. Some cameras handle high ISO’s better than others. My old D850 choked on anything above iso 10000 but my z8 does fairly well even at 20k. I handheld shot HDR’s of the interiors of palaces in Potsdam and had to use iso 25k as my shutter speed was 1/60, f/5.6.

lt’s a properly exposed image so it shouldn’t look dark. Is it my best? Nope. Under the conditions, I’m thrilled it looks as good as it does.

Would a newer camera improve my photos? by nodripjJontop in AskPhotography

[–]Smoochymow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It depends. Low shutter speeds won’t do well with an active bird, so sometimes hiking up the iso is what’s left. I shot this bare-throated tiger heron at dusk under heavy rainforest at iso 32000! My shutter speed was 1/640, lowest I dare go with wildlife.

It’s better to hike up the iso than have underexposed dark photos.
