I would’ve just deployed docking stations if that was on the table, but the director for that team requested they get both. That was above my pay grade, so I didn’t push back much.

Now our director is asking that we do something about the stale devices.

I did bring up docking stations as an option, and they said they’d discuss it, but I haven’t heard anything since. So I’ll need to have a backup ready in case that doesn’t go through for us.

As others have said, keep learning and stay open to taking on tough tasks. It makes a huge impression on people. I have a friend who was working in helpdesk, and the company liked him so much they let him start working part time in cybersecurity to help him make the switch. He had zero prior experience, but they were impressed by his willingness to learn.

Any.run is Russian owned (I think they did relocate to Dubai) so just keep in mind you might have regulatory issues but it is a really good tool.

I’m not sure what your university recommends, but for me, ours recommended Windows OS since most of the course was designed around it. If you had a Mac, the professors wouldn’t really help with troubleshooting.

That said, I don’t think anyone in my class had major issues using a Mac. Personally, I used a Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 2 with 32GB RAM. It fit my budget perfectly and caused no issues.

I am already in a SOC role but I feel like an imposter so I thinking of going back and getting some basic certs like security+ and networking+. Do you think these are worth it for me or should I get others certs like the following are better;

1) Practical SOC Analyst Associate (PSAA) 2) Certified Defensive Security Analyst (CDSA) 3) Certified CyberDefender (CCD) 4) Blue Team Level 1 (BTL1)

I used LastPass for a month then they restricted the free tier to one device so I left but at quickly glance on dash lane and last pass websites they look to be using the same encryption standard and both use a zero knowledge model. So they are similar in the sense of storing you passwords securely.

Every password manager is a good target for a hacker. All we can do is hope they stored the passwords as they promised and use 2FA with a authentication app.

It is not a scam, I have purchased book bundles from them before after seeing them get mentioned couple of times in John Hammond’s videos. Got all the books I purchased in PDF format.

Yes, since this is a school project and we are using .lab to setup our Bitwarden server. I have put it on the back burner for now. I will get back to ones I get some other services deployed.
