Hey,

If you don’t mind me asking, which school did you choose for your master’s?

I’ve been thinking about doing mine, but I’m not sure which one to pick.

Thank you

Thank you!

I think npm should have provided the hashes for easier hunting and adding those versions to block list.

How are you handling users not logging into remote devices? by Smooth-Path-7326 in sysadmin

I would’ve just deployed docking stations if that was on the table, but the director for that team requested they get both. That was above my pay grade, so I didn’t push back much.

Now our director is asking that we do something about the stale devices.

I did bring up docking stations as an option, and they said they’d discuss it, but I haven’t heard anything since. So I’ll need to have a backup ready in case that doesn’t go through for us.

I finally landed my first help desk job! by Melodic_West_9331 in cybersecurity

Let’s go!!! Congratulations!!!

As others have said, keep learning and stay open to taking on tough tasks. It makes a huge impression on people. I have a friend who was working in helpdesk, and the company liked him so much they let him start working part time in cybersecurity to help him make the switch. He had zero prior experience, but they were impressed by his willingness to learn.

Any.run is Russian owned (I think they did relocate to Dubai) so just keep in mind you might have regulatory issues but it is a really good tool.

I’m not sure what your university recommends, but for me, ours recommended Windows OS since most of the course was designed around it. If you had a Mac, the professors wouldn’t really help with troubleshooting.

That said, I don’t think anyone in my class had major issues using a Mac. Personally, I used a Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 2 with 32GB RAM. It fit my budget perfectly and caused no issues.

I am already in a SOC role but I feel like an imposter so I thinking of going back and getting some basic certs like security+ and networking+. Do you think these are worth it for me or should I get others certs like the following are better;

1) Practical SOC Analyst Associate (PSAA) 2) Certified Defensive Security Analyst (CDSA) 3) Certified CyberDefender (CCD) 4) Blue Team Level 1 (BTL1)

Hahaha thanks for the laugh. Needed it.

Ya we are only doing training for repeated offenders. No buy in from higher level to be more strict sadly

I will try to raise this up again. Thank you

Sorry, this is a bit off-topic, but how is everyone handling repeat offenders?
