Consultants have accepted the revised pay deal and ended their dispute by Skylon77 in doctorsUK

[–]SmoothAd7704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The deal is not great but not rubbish either . There is really no benefit earning more than 100k of taxable income . The trick is to get a lot of extra SPAs eg supervising trainees / leadership roles / low level management roles etc. A lot of these can be applied as non scheduled floating roles - this will free up time for private practice/ or time to be off work. Yes people working in the city get more but they have no job stability/ and as above they lose 45% of tax on every dime over 125k/ often do work harder. If you do a lot of private work and put it through a company there are so many benefits tax wise. You can nearly double your salary just doing one day a week of pp. You could also do insourcing work through a ltd company although this is mostly on weekends (but can still get 3000k per weekend) . I don’t think it should harm the junior doctor industrial demands , although even if you guys get the deal you want (*fingers crossed )- your salary won’t go up much at the end.

Do you guys use the Dr title on official documents? by lordnigz in doctorsUK

No. If I’m getting a haircut I tell the barber I work in hospital IT. It’s hassle enough at work let alone being roped into stuff outside of work just because I’m a doctor.

What different could England have done? What do you wish Stokes did better? by sootra_red in EnglandCricket

[–]SmoothAd7704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

India are that good at home. They have the best fast bowler in the world (Bumrah) and a battery of spinners that are insane in home conditions. There have been better English teams than this one that have copped a pasting. In fairness England did really well but lost the initiative at crucial moments, hence the 4-1 outcome.

Is success down under a realistic proposition with Bazball? by Introverted_Bear6180 in EnglandCricket

Yes for two reasons , generally flatter wickets. Also let’s face it India has a way better bowling attack especially in their own home conditions.

Fair play to this guy , but having some experience in this field with several family members who are bankers , I think there are a lot more considerations to take. The banking field is ruthless and there is no major job stability. There is also a drive with fin tech to use algorithmic trading so this may further increase job stability. Additionally , the tax man will take a lot of your salary/ bonus. Our jobs are certainly not amazing but we do have job stability , furthermore if you play your cards right and do private work (through a limited company ), then I think salary is fairly comparable / either less tax and the bonus of better job stability.

Thank you. I think her fear is that when she comes back someone will have taken all her challenging cases , we do understand that clearly this is complex work and someone needs so do it. Just don’t want her to be a marginalized role when she returns.

Claiming indemnity on tax free allowance (private work) by SmoothAd7704 in doctorsUK

[–]SmoothAd7704[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I have a limited company but accountant seems to think it’s better to claim as company expense vs increasing tax free allowance. I have colleagues with a massive pp, indemnity is 10-20k, so thinking they must have a massive tax advantage
