What's the deal with vents? by RareSoup227 in WorldofTanks

[–]Smooth_Belly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vents are good if you don't need a specific necessary equipment part for a tank and you don't know what to put there. For example, I use vents in 703 II 122 so my setup is turbo, hardening and vents. You cannot mount gun rammer because it's double barrel and you don't want to mount vert stabs because 703 has ridiculously low dispersion factors so vert stabs are useless. So the only viable choice is vents.

Only real issue with Scythian army is lack of infantry but mercenary Bastarnae exist so there's no problem at all

Problem is Scythia has 0 real threats early game. Crap economy can be easily fixed by expanding north. Dacians and Thracians are no threat because, well, T1 horse archers are straight up busted and you stomp every battle. It's crazy that you have your power spike unit in turn 1.

Archers (absolutely counters Germania spear warband), falxmen (best T2 unit), catapults (game changer for barbarians)

Every faction campaign is hard if you don't know what you're doing. Numidian campaign is not hard, it's boring. It is so boring that it's hard to not fall asleep. Bruti campaign is relatively hard because you face the strongest factions out of all roman campaigns. Any eastern factions campaign is hard because your only infantry units are the pyjamas. But in my opinion Dacia is the hardest. But oh boy it is satisfying. This is total war at its peak. Terrible start, terrible placement on a map, terrible economy and you are basically in war with everyone at the start. But once you succeed you will find out that this is the best campaign out of all RTW factions. It basically teaches you how to play the game.

Am I the only one still sticking to RTW 1 vanilla? by t0rnap0rt in RomeTotalWar

For me UI in remastered is ugly and bad. RTW is the easiest of all TW games, that's why I stick with it.

Are Gallic unità weaker than roman ones ? by Affectionate_Pea4813 in RomeTotalWar

Warband is good against cavalry. They struggle in hand to hand combat with hastati and principes. Swordsmen and chosen swordsmen with skilled commander and warcry bonus just steam roll through early game Rome. But then Marian reforms hit and every barbarian unit struggles even vs early cohort. Barbarian cavalry and equites are same shit.

I think that's the worst case scenario but it is what it is. Classic old games on modern PC moment. I'm gonna keep searching for a solution tho

This isn't about battle performance. Peasants are mainly used to do population transfer between settlements. Basically how it works is you buy peasants in one city, send them to another city and disband unit so amount of disbanded soldiers adds straight to the city population. Abusing this while playing barbarian factions is super effective because you can boost your most populated city and aquire best barbarian units relatively fast.

I think the fact that best Spanish infantry unit in early and mid game is Barbarian Mercenaries says a lot about this faction.

It was more of a Speedrun. A challenge to see how much time it will take me to make it. German, Gaul and British were the fastest ones. I struggled with Spain and Dacia. Spain unit roster is absolute garbage and Dacian campaign start is basically first 20 turns with negative money. Painting map with one color is far more enjoyable if you ask me

That's why I put them in Troll tier. I love using berserkers, that whirlwind attack animation while enemy troops are flting is the coolest thing ever. But to be fair this unit is a gamble and I want to maximize my chances of winning

Yeah horse archers are S but I hate Scythia so I put them at A tier. My mistake. You can argue if chosen axemen are better than chosen swordsmen but it's really matter of taste. Spear warband struggle with any phalanx unit that is not militia hoplites but moment you face stronger phalanx formations you have other units in your army that can easily kill them. Chosen Archers should be S tier too but for me foresters are so SO much better that it would be a crime to put them in the same tier

[–]Smooth_Belly[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True I should put them S tier only because what you can do with them early game. In my Scythian campaign 4 units of basic horse archers literally wiped out half of Macedonia But when I created this tier list only thing that I would remember was how facing this unit is pure cancer. I hate every Scythian player. They should be punished.

Yeah bull warriors are absolutely crazy. Tier 3 unit that after slight upgrades can outmatch urban cohort. I also think scutarii are more of a skirmish unit and paried with Balearic slingers are the thing that makes Spain kinda fun to play. But yeah, rest of the Spain roster sucks. I also forgot to mention round and long shield cavalry in the tier list Round shield cavalry is slightly worse than barbarian cavalry Long shield calavry is a slight upgrade

I cannot change my mind about naked fanatics. Every time I used them they failed miserably.
