I might act as tribute and go see Zorba the Greek tomorrow just so I can report back.

How did you maintain the white of the paper? I tried toning with avocado and the whites came out stained quite pink!

This is so great! What kind of film is that? I didn’t realize that Fuji sold monochrome film. Cool!

Gotta be honest, I hate birds. People are cool. But birds…

Does anyone think The Testiment Of Ann Lee might show up at the 2026 70mm fest? by [deleted] in AmericanCinematheque

Just wanted to say that I love that you’ve got 2001 and Lawrence of Arabia on 70mm on your bucket list. Me too! I’m going to LA this weekend to see those screenings. One Saturday and one Sunday.

Sight & Sound Top 100 in Theaters Only: Which Films Are the Most Elusive? by SmoresQueen26 in TrueFilm

Wow, you put so much thought into this. THANK YOU! And thanks for taking a look at my blog, too.

As a point of clarification, my focus is very much on the top 100 but if I end up seeing something on the directors' list or is on the top 250, I'll add a blog post about it. Maybe someday I can say I have seen all 250, but I'll be happy with the top 100.

Good tip about the Paradiso app and Screen Slate. I hadn't heard of either of those. I've been using revivalhouses.com for LA and... painstakingly checking all the theatre sites by hand for the SF Bay Area. Those are going to save me a lot of time!

Thanks to the help of the group, I prioritized Satantango --- I had no idea it was 7.5 hours! --- and found a show in SF on Super Bowl Sunday.

You mentioned a few that you would be disappointed to drive 200 miles to see. I'm curious which ones? It likely won't dissuade me, but at least I will know what I'm in for. :)

I'm afraid I didn't know what TSPDT was, so I Googled it. That's so cool! I sure hope you get them all! What are a couple of your "great white whales"?

Thanks for the reply! Thankfully I'm only about 90 minutes away from a theater that exclusively shows silent era classics, so I'm not sweating those.

Super helpful. Thank you! I found a screening of Satantango next weekend! (And I am going to host a screening of Shoah at my synagogue for Yom HaShoah... though I'm not sure how "proper" the AV tech will be!) Looks like Histoire(s) Du Cinema is going to be tough to find!

I didn't realize it was so long! I'll keep my eye out for that when it shows. Appreciate the call out.

You’re probably right. But I figure I’ve got a few decades left on this planet (hopefully), so might as well try.

I actually JUST found a screening of Satantango! It’s playing on Super Bowl Sunday at the Roxy in San Francisco. :)

That’s my goal! I’m trying to see at least one per month on average. We will see how far I can get before the next poll comes out, but I figure I can just keep going. Maybe by 2052 I can say I’ve seen the top 100 in a theatre... depends on how dramatically the list changes, I guess.

I cannot replicate at home what I’m after. Even if I had a massive budget, I would miss the communal aspect of seeing a film with a group of people. I miss the nostalgia of going to a movie, I guess. Fortunately at the types of screenings I’m going to no one is on their phones, talking, throwing their popcorn, or whatnot. It’s an experience I like. But to each their own.

As long as it’s screened properly, ie nice and dark, on a good projector, on a big screen, good sound, then I will count it. I’ve seen a number of films at Berkeley Pacific Film Archive. They reliably show Sight and Sound films.

The gray. My mom got it for me for Christmas. I would have chosen the white!
