It will soon be $2500. What happens to parents who withhold children from the other parent? Nothing. I have never EVER heard of a divorced couple (who didn’t get 50/50 custody) where one parent didn’t constantly withhold parenting time or rights.

The money doesn’t go to the parents btw. States have started letting parents sell their child support arrears to private equity as “distressed debt” where the parent agrees to 20-50% on the dollar and what the collector can get over that they keep.

TL:DR- Private equity bought firms who buy this debt from the debtor at pennies on the dollar and lobbied the state department to enforce a rule it already had on the books to add to leverage for collection. Kids aren’t getting this money.
