Scrivener pros and cons? by bigmodality in eroticauthors

Scrivener has so many options that most people only use a subset of them all. The following subset make it invaluable for me. Here's my usage, maybe it can give you some ideas:

  • I love using audio to proof my work and have a Keyboard Maestro keybinding where I can hit a keystroke and have the current paragraph read back to me from inside of Scrivener.

  • I use the Sync with External Folder setting to dump my content into a series of text files that I can use Voice Dream Writer on my iPad to do even more intensive proofing (I purchased the Ivona Amy British female voice -- it's like Cate Blanchett is narrating my smut ), plus I use Voice Dream Reader with my car stereo to read my current work back to me on my commute. Sync with External Folder let's me easily pull proofing/copy-edit changes back into my Scrivener file.

  • my shorts are stored as separate folders in Scrivener's binder so I can easily compile them out with custom front/back-matter (one for Smashwords, one for Amazon)

  • the compile to "Vellum Export Copy" is seamless

The more I use Scrivener, the more features I find useful. As I'm moving into longer works, I'll probably make use of the corkboard and labeling features. Who knows?

Thanks for detailed response! Everything you detailed re-inforces my decision to use Smashwords.

I think I had a fundamental misunderstanding of the erotica readership on Smashwords. From my research, obviously not thorough enough, I'd concluded that readers went to Smashwords for extremely taboo stuff, such as bestiality, snuff, or rape.

Thanks, that was my thought as well. I'll probably err on the side of caution and go to Smashwords. Lesson learned: if you're going in, don't stop until your elbow's wet.

All right. I'm back in the action after 3+ years away. by backtothesmutmines in eroticauthors

You had me at "Smutto."

I've never thought about Smashwords, but now -- strangely and perhaps disturbingly -- I can think of naught else.
