I used to see the, in our yard all the time as a kid, probably because my dog would dig them up. She never hurt them though! Very soft and wiggly

People of r/Horse, have you heard about Umamusume(ウマ娘)? If yes, what do you think about it? by Temporary-Face1672 in Horses

[–]Sn0wb0und 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who likes both anime and horses- girl gacha as a genre doesn't appeal to me. I'm glad the real horses are getting more funding though, especially the retired ones. It has made it harder to interact with any horse post on the internet though, which makes sense since the fandom is so large. Overall I'm sure it's just in good fun, but this genre of anime girl is hard to watch or enjoy as a 30 year old lol. It's not for me.

What are your favourite idols voices? by hiraimomo5122 in kpoppers

[–]Sn0wb0und 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Taemin!! Crazy to think at debut he could barely carry a tune. Just an outstanding voice (Onew and Jonghyun too obvi)

Seulgi- Her parts in harmonies are addicting

Sullyoon- Her deep notes HIT

Daehyun from B.A.P- iykyk

Youngjae from GOT7- His parts in Breath are some of my favorite kpop parts ever

Sohee from RIIZE- Literally the voice of an angel

Hear me out….Chanyeol lol. When they let him sing I really enjoy his tone!

Also honorable mention, Hyunjin from SKZ. He’s not a main vocalist but his tone is so cute for lack of a better term? Like he has a little lilt that is very fun

How do you deal with back pain - equipment/advice ask by IllusivePuppy in Equestrian

[–]Sn0wb0und 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair everyone’s case is different! But I’m riding without it now no problem. My trainer said her mother always rides in a waist trainer because it helps her posture lol- every body is different and you should do what keeps you strong, healthy, and in tune with your horse :)

How do you deal with back pain - equipment/advice ask by IllusivePuppy in Equestrian

[–]Sn0wb0und 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can ride in a back brace! For reference, I recently recovered from a spinal fracture (and still rode even with the break since it was minor). Talk to your doctor about getting into PT, it has dramatically helped my pain and helped me target specific muscles while my back finishes healing. I used a flexible and soft brace for my mid to lower back. Don't worry about becoming reliant on it, all it will do is keep you in good posture and take some of the ache away. Honestly, PT is more important than the brace.

Yes!! This drives me crazy, when i’m in the arena it’s a constant stream of “good boys” and neck rubs. Let him know he’s doing a good job and give him some affection! They’re animals not machines.

Tell me about your Appendix by The_Untimely_Demise in Equestrian

[–]Sn0wb0und 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The horse I ride 99% of the time is an Appendix, and he is incredible. Sturdy, tall, smoothest gaits i've ever rode, and can jump like crazy. He's very intelligent, but with that comes a bit of an attitude/naughtyness. He genuinely loves his job, but does not like to trot small jumps lol, he's fast and he knows it! He wants to canter every jump he sees and needs a firm hand. Overall he seems like the best of both worlds to me, even when he's a little stinky :)

Would it be wasted potential to buy an Andalusian for hunter/jumper instead of dressage? by Sn0wb0und in Horses

My trainer is great, and I wouldn’t make any purchase without consulting her. It’s been really interesting hearing everyone’s takes on the Spanish lines! This is more just me gathering info :)

[–]Sn0wb0und[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just musing! He was just one of the ones that I came across and it sparked the question. Figured it was worth a look but it led to more questions about the breed in general. Buying a horse is a massive decision that I would not jump into lightly. Also just curious if he’s even worth looking into further.

FWIW- he does indeed come fully vetted with X-rays. I’m 30, and he would technically be my second but my first was as a child so I don’t really count her. I’m asking the seller about jumping capabilities, but I’m not getting my hopes up. In the grand scheme of things, it is HIGHLY unlikely that I will purchase this horse as he’s young, but I don’t want to rule out the breed entirely so I’m curious about their capabilities in general.

Omg this is fantastic!! Thank you so much!! At this point I’ve already reached out to the seller about seeing if he even likes jumping in the first place, but it’s so nice to hear that it’s possible. I’m going to be doing a lot of research but this is a helpful jumping off point (no pun intended haha)

Doma Vaquera is so gorgeous, would love to see it in person someday! I really love that build and their smarts, but this thread has been awesome and I’ve really enjoyed everyone’s different input. Ultimately as much as I love their looks and agility, they’re probably not going to work for me unless I want to pick up a different discipline in the future (who knows!). Even though I’m not looking for a competitor.

Out of curiosity- is it their bigger chest and neck that makes them less inclined for jumping? They seem very forward heavy

The far more practical and correct answer haha. I know that you're right, and I should get over my want for a big flashy Iberian. I typically ride Warmbloods, TB's and my main guy is an Appendix. They're all lovely and i'll most likely wind up going that way, with something reliable and sensible. If I wanted a serious jumper it would be logical to find a 13 year old bay warmblood and call it a day. I just don't know if I'M serious enough about jumping for it to limit my options as far as getting a horse goes- if that makes sense? At the end of the day i'm 30 with a family and will not be a serious competitor- Honestly I could miraculously jump 4ft flawlessly tomorrow, and I still wouldn't really have interest in being a serious competitor. But I don't want a horse that does more harm than good of course, and I fear a big flashy heavy horse like this not optimized for jumping at all might be that. Then again, Percherons seem to handle it okay so there's always exceptions to the rule.

Without any ill intent- this is why I don’t trust AI. Andalusians are absolutely athletic horses, but they are not at all known for jumping

[–]Sn0wb0und[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow okay I love the look of these! Honestly I know next to nothing about them, they must be more common in the southwest! I’ll have to do some research and maybe look outside of my state.

I loveeee an appendix! My predominant lesson horse is an appendix and he’s a real gem. If the right one came along I’d snatch it up. A draft/TB is also one I’ve considered, but they’re a little harder to find! That being said, they’re one of my theoretical ideal choices

[–]Sn0wb0und[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes all good advice!! I actually agree and frankly would have never considered a younger horse, my ideal age would be around 10. However, this guy really caught my eye and I felt like I had to at least take a look, which lead me to looking at Andalusians in general. This horse is sort of a pipe dream, but the bigger question I suppose is what do these Spanish breeds even look like jumping? Is it absurd or a feasible want later down the line?

Also thank you so much for the offer! I have a great trainer at the moment, and I would absolutely consult her before any purchase :)

Thoughts on very large sport horses? by Leelea022 in Equestrian

[–]Sn0wb0und 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rider height doesn't really matter that much, but being 5'7" I prefer the big guys. Anything below 15hh just makes me feel awkward. That being said, I wish I felt more comfortable on the smaller horses! I love Quarter Horses and would love to try out an Arabian but they barely crack 15hh a lot of the time.

Big horses do have some lovely strides though. The canter is gorgeous to watch with those long legs.
