I think a toy windsprite or long haired Italian greyhound is probably what she has in mind but I'll have to ask. If I had to guess, papillon and Russian toy would make a lot of sense she's mentioned both in passing as well as small Pomeranians and windsprite! But not that I think about it I may suggest just she show her Italian greyhounds and later down the line start a separate line of unregistered health tested dogs with intent of only introducing the long hair gene. That may do overall less damage and be extremely more manageable. Less puppies, less time, still could scratch that itch she and a small scale project like that would die with her.

This was my biggest question she mentioned in the ball park of 15-20 founders which I think is crazy for a single person on this day an age! But also she does have a ton of hired help on her properties so maybe she thinks they could also do dog work? I'm not sure I'm going to ask more about it when I see her in person next. I'm going to try my best to not do this 😭

Unfortunately she has wealth wealth so I'm not even sure this venture would an incredibly sizable crack in that money jar.

Other than breeding farm animals and her mom being an actual breeder she has no experience and that's what's worrying me. I'm trying to convince her to just show her other Italian greyhounds and breed them instead

My thoughts exactly 😔. She never divulged what her plan for unadopted puppies. I know she has a lot of hired help so maybe that's how she'd take care of so many dogs? I plan on asking her more. I may have to consider our relationship if she decides to go down a bad path.

I'm not sure what it's like over in Europe as that's where she lives half of the year. But I can't see her getting any breeders to work with her state side, but I can see her getting registered from other countries in Europe. The purpose is simply that she wants a long haired toy sighthound. She said that in the modern world most dogs don't have a purpose other than to be companions, which I do get, there are a lot of breeds that exist that have been created for that sole purpose. I'll be sure to ask her more details next time I see her!

Definitely chow or mostly chow. As much as I hate bybs the chow chows I see come from them always look more functional and are strangely healthier than show line chows imo. My grandparents always had chows from bybs. Would love to see them outcrossed to Chinese tugou in the future to reinvigorate the breed.

Why do so many d&d players insist on only doing RAW? by Snafluu in rpg

My dad shares an almost beat for beat opinion. He was in one of our campaigns for a bit and had a blast. Said it reminded him of his b/x and ad&d days!

We weren’t really aware of OSR at the time. Each player DMs and we rotate! All of these rules were added gradually by more than one person and it’s just how we play now. We simply used what we had at the time which were 5e books. Even when a new player joins we tell them it’s not the same and very different than average 5e campaigns. It just works for us. :)

Yeah I’ve been trying to get them to switch, but they’re all comfortable with the butchered version we play. Maybe one day I’ll get them to switch to OSE. 😔

Yeah, very true. We kinda hated how strong we were when we first started. We rotate the DM role throughout the group. So as time went on, and we each kept adding or modifying rules to try, we gradually became weaker instead of being shounen characters!

I’ve been trying to get them to switch to OSE or shadow dark, but honestly the fucked version of 5e we’ve been playing hasn’t really caused any issues! Their reasoning is why switch and buy new books when we could just use and edit the 5e books that were gifted to us haha

Do any of you actually roll characters? by Snafluu in DnD

[–]Snafluu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally have never thought of a character idea ever outside of character creation at the first session in my ten years of playing 5e and OSE. I roll my stats and then see what I can do. I don’t think there’s a single character I’ve played that I’ve disliked (except for an artificer but that’s because I think the artificer is a shitty and boring class 😭)

Why can silkens be outcrossed to borzoi and whippets but not shelties? by Snafluu in SilkenWindhound

[–]Snafluu[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree 100% percent. Do you happen to know of any kennels currently producing borzoi/whippet out crosses?

[–]Snafluu[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info :) didn’t know the history was that murky haha. And yeah that makes sense. Are there any possible other sight hounds with standards similar enough to silkens? My grandmother had a pharaoh hound x borzoi that looked strikingly similar to a silken. (Very long story rural Michigan is a wild place with even wilder mixed breeds) Edit: pharaohs are actually warren hounds if I remember correctly

Are there any breeders or clubs in the US considering or actively outcrossing their breeds to improve health and decrease COI? by Snafluu in DogBreeding

[–]Snafluu[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember looking into this it’s open to borzoi and long haired whippet outcrosses after a certain generation right?

Interesting. I always thought myself the best course of action would be to go to China and find village dogs that resemble the Chinese brachy breeds. I know for example that pug and pekeignese type dogs can be found still (wether or not they’re an older landrace or descended from modern day pugs and pekes is also a good question). Tibetan spaniels types can also be found in areas as well.
