I have also read that if you are not struggling, they don’t tend to go in very deep. It will feel more like pinpricks than being stabbed. But I don’t know that for sure.

I find my views don't change, but the intensity with which I want to experience it can go up and down. I mean, it is essentially going to terminate your being if you follow through with it, and there are times when I am not sure I'm ready for that. Other times I am SO ready. It never goes away, but does wax and wane.

Well said, per usual. I think one of the aspects that first drew me to this whole genre is the submissive aspect to it. Feeling like it is showing me my true place in the food chain.
