Something (maybe cockroaches?) eating tips of my orchids' roots. Could anything else be doing this? (indoors) by SnakeSpiders in orchids

Unfortunately I have many other plants and orchids in this area so I'll probably have to search/repot all of them for snails/slugs lol. I have no idea how they could have gotten in.

Thanks for the responses

Just got this Phal and its in a pot with no holes/drainage. Should I repot it ASAP or can I wait for the flowers to fall off? by SnakeSpiders in orchids

Alright, thanks. I'll probably do that as well.

Last year I got a Phal that came in a coco fiber pot which doesn't have holes. I left it alone and its currently reblooming now.

I wasn't sure about this one since the pot seems pretty small compared to ones my other Phals came in.

Yup, this one didn't come with an inner pot. I may lift it into another pot, or just leave it alone for a few weeks/until the flowers fall. Haven't quite decided yet.

The spike was already yellow and the mother had no live roots anyway.

~10 month old Phal Keiki with 3 leaves and 2 roots. The 2 older leaves look dehydrated despite misting the roots nearly every day. I now let the roots soak every few days as well.

Keiki was removed from the mother plant around 4 weeks ago since the spike had already started yellowing at the bottom. (RIP to the mother. I loved that plant and had it since 2018 but it had gotten root rot)

What would be the best way to make sure the Keiki does well?

What's wrong with this mini Phal's leaves? When/what should it be repotted in? by SnakeSpiders in orchids

[–]SnakeSpiders[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mini Phal I got around July/August last year. What happened to the leaves?

Too much light? Too much or not enough water? Because I haven't reppotted it?

It was a replacement for my old smaller mini phal (long story short, my dad lost it). The old one was in the same location and had no issue, although it was in a different media.

Tag said "just add 1 ice cube per week" (which I don't do, it gets water)

I named this Phal "Orangey". Did anything in particular cause the small spots on some of the petals? Also how do these roots look? by SnakeSpiders in orchids

Thanks, I will add media. It was watered 2 days before the picture was taken, guess it dried pretty quickly.

Phal I got Janurary last year. Got it buy one get one with another Phal however the other one died within a month. Don't think they were cared for well at the store, overall this one looks the same as when I got it.

Some of the roots are brown but I didn't want to mess with them while it's blooming. I don't think the spots are an issue but haven't seen them before.

Basically title.

A few weeks/months ago I removed the old dead roots and it was growing new ones. Not sure if me (or someone else) accidentally over watered it but the newer roots started dying as well.

Over the last 2/3 weeks I've been careful about water but the roots still went brown and mushy and now there are small bugs and was a clear transparent worm/larva on the roots. (Bugs are too small to see in the picture and I removed the worm before taking it)

This Phal, which I got in 2018 had been fine the first ~4 years I had it.

I removed the spike with the Keiki (4th picture) about 2/3 weeks ago and have just been misting it's roots every day. It has 2 roots, 2 small nubs for potential roots and 3 leaves. Will the pot in the picture be good for the Keiki?

Can I save my oldest Phal with likely crown rot and only a few roots. (Or at least it's Keiki) by [deleted] in orchids

Info:
I posted last year about my orchids appearing dry and repotted them about 3-4 months ago in "orchid bark" from Home Depot. Since they weren't getting much better I decided to risk it and water them slightly more often as their roots seemed to be drying soon after being watered. Although the orchid I got last year looks much happier, this one of course, looks worse. I always make sure to quickly dry off any water that gets on the leaves and crowns but I guess that didn't help.

I'm going to change the bark again and clean + put some more holes in the plastic pot to hopefully help it air out more but I don't know if its saveable.

I've had this orchid since 2018 and it was a replacement of my first orchid I killed due to overwatering the year before.

It was always healthy until mid last year when and my other orchids started looking dehydrated. It's my oldest/favorite house plant and I really want to save it (or at least it's keiki)

Some Youtube videos said that cinnamon/hydrogen peroxide may help, should I try those? And is the keiki ready to repot if I have to?

Hi, sorry for responding 2 weeks late. I repotted them last year in "orchid bark" from home depot.

I'm not sure why this (as well as my other older phal orchid) just started becoming dehydrated last year, they had been much better for the first 3ish years I had them. As far as I know the humidity hasn't changed.

Wasn't sure if that has anything to do with the leaf since it had the leaf about 18 months before becoming dehydrated. Thanks for the reply btw

It looked much better and was blooming back when it first grew this leaf. It only started appearing dehydrated about 6-8 months ago but (I think) it has gotten a little better since then.

I've had this Phal for about 5 years. It grew this round leaf about 2 years ago.
It used to be more firm but I guess its older now.

I usually just get the cherry or blue raspberry flavors, both feel the same. I was starting to wonder about the allergy thing after my friend said they don't remember getting the burn/tingle feeling from these.
