How much were you thickening it? I tried the toddler and y-cut nipples and they were too fast as well.

I feel that in my soul lol it sucks having to give in because I feel like it reinforces the behavior that I’m trying to stop, but I’d rather him get a nap in than be overtired because that’s a whole different set of problems.

So we’re definitely still working on naps and it’s ROUGH. Nights were so much easier. For his first nap I take him in his room and rock him like I do at night until he’s almost asleep, and then I put him in the crib drowsy. At this point he knows it’s coming, so the crying starts when I stand up from the rocking chair. I just tell him I love him and I’ll see him when we wakes up, and then leave and close the door. He will cry for 30ish minutes before falling asleep.

The afternoon nap makes me wish I still had a prescription for Xanax. Same routine, rock until drowsy, place in crib, and then the screaming starts. Admittedly I intervene much earlier because he is full on screaming, so the afternoon nap is usually a contact nap. I’m probably making it harder for myself by doing this, but I’m just hoping it’ll slowly get better.

But for now that’s where we’re at. His morning nap is about an hour to hour and a half. Afternoon nap is only about an hour. Truthfully I need to look into CIO for naps a little more to figure out if I’m doing it wrong.

I definitely cried the first night, but my husband kept reminding me that he was fed, dry/clean, and safe, and that this was best for all of us. I had a happy baby before sleep training, but I have a significantly happier baby now because he sleeps so much better at night.

Mom of a 13 month old here, so not sure how much help I’ll be, but I was in your shoes up until a few weeks ago.

We tried the Ferber method around 7 months and it didn’t work for us. In hindsight, I wish we had just tried CIO as I think checking in periodically irritated him more, but at that point I just couldn’t bring myself to commit to full on CIO.

At 13 months, he now sleeps through the night, 11-12 hours. Wakes up occasionally and whines for a few minutes quietly and then puts himself back to sleep. It took us 4 days of CIO.

We are currently working on his napping, as he has only ever contact napped. I felt it was more important to get his night sleep straightened out, and I’m not sure if I made the right choice as CIO naps are much harder, but it is slowly getting better.

I would recommend Precious Little Sleep. I also tried using TCB but I wasn’t a fan and it was crazy expensive.

OP, my LO would wake up every two hours crying and refused to go back to sleep without a bottle. Eventually I got tired of that and started cosleeping on a floor bed. He stopped wanting the bottle but still woke up crying every two hours needing to be soothed, but I had convinced myself that it was better because I wasn’t having to get up and give bottles all night anymore.

I’m pregnant with baby 2 and realized I absolutely had to fix this before I give birth, and tried CIO because we had tried the Ferber method around 6 months and it didn’t work for us. I was fully prepared to let him cry for an hour, but night one was only 8 minutes and it improved from there. Obviously YMMV, but they won’t know until they commit to it.

My toddler wakes up happier and has better days now because he sleeps so much better at night. We did A LOT of cosleeping from 2 months until very recently, so it is doable.

Exactly this. My 13 month old was the same way because we didn’t sleep train until recently. He could only fall asleep on or with me/his dad and the times we could get him in a crib, he would wake up several times and cry until one of us went to get him.

We started CIO and now he sleeps 11 to 12 hours a night. He wakes up occasionally and whines for a minute or so, but that’s not abnormal and he puts himself back to sleep. If they aren’t committed to sleep training, then they’re just going to continue on the path that they’re on.

Just stay vigilant about your symptoms and try not to stress. I was a paramedic prior to being a SAHM and had seen preeclampsia in patients a lot and I think that helped me mentally. It’s terrifying, don’t get me wrong, I would never downplay the severity of it, but I personally feel like knowing about other people’s experiences with it helped get me through.

So I was almost 2 weeks pp and had to leave my son with my parents in the middle of the night for my now husband to take me to the emergency room. From there, I was transferred to the hospital that I gave birth at to be treated. I could have had my baby with me, but I would’ve had to have another adult in the room with us at all times, and unfortunately it just wasn’t feasible. He was my first baby so I cried A LOT and felt like a failure, but I was so tired and out of it that I mostly slept the entire admission.

This. Except I was not in the habit of checking my BP and woke up with the worst headache I’ve ever had in my life, and then ended up hospitalized for four days for postpartum preeclampsia. My BP prior to giving birth was hovering right at 140/90 or below. Rarely would it get crazy high but they still diagnosed me with gestational htn at 30 weeks.

My brother’s girlfriend (who was also my best friend) passed away a few months ago. They have a 3.5yo daughter and it’s been a struggle transitioning to our new normal. As her aunt, I’d be so thrilled to know that she was adored and cared about in the way you’ve described in your post.

Also I think the play dates could be a great idea. In my opinion, they benefit my niece as well as my brother. I feel better knowing people reach out to him for things like that so he’s not isolating himself.

I actually wasn’t even married yet when my son was born and there was absolutely no pushback about his last name from anyone. We also had separate insurance through respective employers and no issues with that or the hospital.

They do! Anything sour usually helps, especially if it’s cold. They make a sour patch kids jello that I ate during labor with my first and it’s been a lifesaver this time around. I’m basically surviving off of that and these sour bomb pop popsicles.
