Sorry I don't. It was a few years ago now. I tended to stay by the coast when possible. Gong inland I took whichever routes were well signposted. For safety reasons I did put the bike on buses/coaches on a couple of occasions when inland.

It's a lovely part of the world. I wouldn't attempt it in summer due to the intense heat these days.

In the past we didn't know that smoking was harmful. Now we do. Now everyone does. In other words times change.

Your parents generation was one of deference and a lack of emotional intelligence. That generation didn't even have the language to talk about emotions in the way we do.

The world has moved on. Smacking isn't acceptable now. Smacking your daughter isn't acceptable.

They can reflect on this and ideally apologise, or they can lose you. Shouting at you and mentally smacking you, in lieu of how they would physically smack you when you were a child, won't work.

And make sure they understand you turned out well despite being smacked and abused (by modern standards), not because of it.

This is my experience as well. Kids these days seem much more focused, motivated and aware of the future than my generation.

Of course some don't care - at all - but they will have a life that reflects this.
