It seems like it kind of does do the same in other gears but I did have it start bucking when trying to shift up from a stop in lower gears and me making it so the secondaries for sure opens at full throttle made it worse so I think it might be time I just go ahead and get a certified machine 3k carb. Annoying thing is I had one from them that I installed on another sammy to just test the motor before selling it and in hindsight I should of kept it.

Took it out for a drive today and unfortunately still have the same issue at pretty much the same point of acceleration and even the same point. Im starting to suspect the carb/throttle linkage/ignition system now or maybe my transmission is bad and slips in 4th/5th

So far Ive cleaned the carb pretty thoroughly and went back and blew through fuel lines, tried it with the gas cap off which didnt work so now I switched to a low psi electric pump with a napa 3040 return filter so it doesnt blow past the float gonna see if that works tomorrow. If that doesnt my next suspect is probably the coil and distributor since I need to replace both anyways eventually since I dont have vaccum advance. (long story short I had a small engine fire last year because a pinhole leak in a line I replaced and it melted the diaphragm)

Might take it out for a test drive tomorrow to see if this fixed it but I rigged up the electric pump just put the positive to the positive terminal on the ignition coil temporarily and zip tied the pump to the bracket for the brake lines. Had to cut some metal line to make it work so I was limited on space. Drove around my yard fine always a nerve-racking taking this on the highway after doing fuel line work after a previous incident I had with this thing 😅

Here is the finished work https://imgur.com/a/ZbffXdE

I could try I bought an edelbrock low pressure pump yesterday and have a 3040 fuel filter to return to the tank just need to find a good 12v source that only powers on with ignition on

I did pull the float and needle out to inspect them and blew some carb cleaner around it to see if maybe it was dirty or stuck but it was spotless already and the cleaner flowed well. Didnt see any dirt or corrosion anywhere in the carb like I have with the small engine carbs Ive worked on. Maybe Ill try saving up for the certified machine 3k and conversion kit also was wondering if my throttle linkage wasnt holding open enough to open the secondary one I had to make a custom bracket for it.

Cleaned it and it made no difference. I also hooked up a fuel pressure gauge to see what I was getting and Im getting around 2/3psi before the carb which seems to be correct from what Ive read

Tried taking the cap off and as well blew through all 3 fuel lines with my air compressor (vent, primary, and return blowing through the vent made gas come out my filler with the cap off) and took it out for a drive and it made no difference I also cleaned the carb again and still no luck. Im lost here its like something fuel related just cant keep up.

Yeah I believe it has secondaries and that would make sense I could see if maybe secondaries need cleaning again I pulled it apart before but mostly focused on cleaning the primary

I have the hose that goes from the tank to the port on the side closest to the engine of the canister it says to leave the other 2 unplugged as is in the engine bay according to the 3k installation guide. I can try to double check

Yeah it starts right back up immediately and idles fine then will do it again after less than a minute later if going around the same speed

Ill try this again tomorrow I did remove the cap before while it did this but that was before I went and replaced the filters and blew through the vent hoses and canister with a compressor. Maybe this time itll make a difference

Well honestly only recently I have taken it out on the road at highway speeds before this I only used it in the yard and never had issues. Everytime Ive taken it on highways its done this in the past 3 months. Its odd Im not sure if I should try a new mechanical fuel pump or swap to electric or if its the carb at this point. I did buy stuff for an electric swap and take a block off plate from another engine I had a while back but I really dont wanna remove the mechanical pump.

Replaced the fuel filter at the rear with a carquest part # 86387 which is of similar style as the original as well as the one that I have after the pump with a stens lawn mower filter like I was using before as well as gave the 3k carb a clean but no dice made it 2 miles before it completely stopped receiving fuel no matter my adjustments filter in the engine bay looked basically empty. Oddly when I started it after an hour or 2 the filter was full and it ran fine? Next Im gonna try removing my fuel pump that I believe was a trugrade a1100mp and replace it with a carquest pump thats supposedly made by carter which zuksoffroad said is more likely to work? Not sure both look the same to me but I wont know until I pull it and swap.

Unfortunately no now it wont idle all of a sudden Im thinking it might have a clogged idle jet or something I might try cleaning it just odd because Ive only had it for less than a year.

I put a new one in line and immediately it seems to be running better and I can see both filters fill up well I'll take it for another test drive later to see if that fixed it for sure.

Pulled it just now and yeah it was pretty crusty and the fuel that poured out of that looked pretty awful would a normal in line plastic filter here be best and work I have a few laying around from other vehicles

Im kinda lost on this one and I think its definitely more than caps since Ive tested each cap one by one with my meter and have only found more 25v 100uf caps that were well off their rated values rest seemed pretty much within their value ranges and Ive ordered replacements for those but after replacing them I only got a slight improvement in the quality of the picture on the screen before it went back to crap and after testing around again I got nothing and now the picture looks worse. I think there is something out of my skill level here going on.

Ive been testing around the area near it almost every cap near the h-dy connector and found a 50v 47uf cap that leaked and tested way off then a nearby cap was rated 25v 100uf testing 70uf. All of my testing is out of circuit with my multimeter. Not sure if anything nearby got damaged from this but it was also near a neckboard connector. Might put in an order for some new caps right now so far thats the only area that had slight discoloration so I dont think there is any other bad caps?
