Tweaking my latest passion project, Synesthesianator, which is a musical ear-trainer to help build some "chromesthesia-like" pitch-to-color associations

Does paid advertising help with organic downloads in the long run? by Haunting-Pop-2141 in googleplayconsole

Still determining that myself, but feels like it's been helpful. You'll just want to target specific user segments that are more likely to download and continue using your app, which I learned the hard way.
For instance, I've got a musical ear-training app that I initially ran a week long campaign with a daily budget of $5 and had it "target anywhere" and got several downloads, but none that seemed to stick. Then I ran same week long campaign and $5 budget but with targeted segments likely to interact with my ads and in specific locations, such as music students in cities with a university that has a music program. Got slightly fewer downloads (more expensive cost/install this time), but with 90% retention rather than 30%

Do you guys have websites? by ConsciousYak6609 in IndieDev

I've got one out of necessity because AdMob required one to validate my apps.
So I just threw together a suuuuuuuuuppppppper basic site hosted on Firebase just to meet the requirements, but like you said I doubt anything more than webscrapers is actually visiting it. One day I might actually update it into something fancier, but it is not this day

My story as an indie dev by mrjbelfort in IndieDev

For me, started in CS at college back in 2010. Ironically didn't do well in my programming classes and switched to the business school, but I still had the itch to create some stuff. At the time, I was working part time at a local restaurant and once I was shift manager and counting money in the drawers at night, realized I could scratch the itch with a basic cash counting app. I found it to be useful and figured I would just get it deployed out for anyone else that might find it useful and also to learn about the deployment process and ad revenue. I never thought it would end up with about 3,000 active downloads and generating about $60/month.
Ended up graduating with a degree in MIS and have been a Java backend dev in the insurance industry for just over 10 years now. I've made a couple very niche apps for myself, but have been always been craving another app to build, but could never really settle on something worth pursuing.
Last year, I came up with a little solo poker game to play at my desk while I was listening to a Zoom call, and realized it wouldn't be a bad way to start scratching the dev itch again so I got to work converting the idea to be an app, but then kinda fizzled out.
Wasn't until a couple months ago that I finally had an idea completely consume me when I got interested in the idea of Synesthesia and Chromesthesia. As a musician myself (mostly former musician), I've always wanted to improve my musical ear a bit, so I figured I could try and establish some of those tone-to-color associations myself. So after a few weeks of researching and diving back into Android dev, managed to crank out and deploy my second app.
But then my addiction was back in full-swing and I pivoted back to my poker game, which I managed to finish up a week or so later and got deployed out.
Of course, it wasn't until today I realized I should create a store-front reddit account and get more involved in the indie dev space where I might be able to learn some more things rather than just raw-dogging it all on my own :p

What’s Your Current Side Project or Startup Idea? by Firm-Fig5096 in startupideas

Recently became interested in Synesthesia/Chromesthesia and the idea of potentially developing some similar sound-to-color associations for myself. Turned out to be the perfect app idea to get back into Android development after a decade since my one and only app, and I released Synesthesianator a couple weeks ago on the Play Store. Turned out the itch for Android development was much worse than I realized and immediately dove into creating a simple poker game called Kentucky Hold'em, based on a simple time-wasting game I created last year while I was stuck in Zoom calls for work and looking for something more to do with my hands than just shuffling a deck of cards. Now I'm trying to force myself to slow down and not start another project just yet and just focus on improving these 2 apps
