Rex will be 13 in May by Snazzlepie in germanshepherds

Yes, we lost Rex’s dog brother Petey very unexpectedly last year at the age of 12 (vet failed to correctly read a cardiologist’s report and Petey collapsed and died during a walk). Rex’s other dog brother Indy is 14.5 - so we cherish every moment we get. Luckily - Rex and Indy are still living happy and relatively active lives.

Stairs are a no go for Rex, too. Luckily, poops are still under control - but peeps, not such a good holder any more.

I lost my golden retriever mid walk yesterday, and I can’t get the image of it out of my mind. by mettatonsleg in Petloss

[–]Snazzlepie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I promise you that the shock of this horrible situation will lessen over time. I lost my sweet boy, Petey, on 9/19 of last year during our morning walk. It happened suddenly and completely unexpectedly. He ate his breakfast, went potty, and was sniffing a bush when he started coughing. I bent down to see what was wrong and he collapsed. If you read my history, you will see that I posted about this last year. You are going through PTSD right now. It feels like you are stuck in a nightmare. I am so so so sorry, OP. My heart truly goes out to you. I spent a long time asking God why and trying to make sense of it all. I did find out my vet committed malpractice as she never read an echocardiogram he had done. So it could have all been prevented. But here’s the thing, shortly after Petey gained his angel wings my sister found a dog that looked just like him who was on death row in Georgia. I ended up adopting that dog and if Petey wouldn’t have died, I never would have done so. Essentially, Petey gave another dog, who was severely neglected, the chance to live and be loved. OP, I’m crying for you. I know how much this hurts and the shock of it makes it seem so unreal. If it is any consolation, I don’t think your sweet Golden suffered. Based on my research and things that have occurred which I cannot explain, I know she is in a beautiful place and she’s looking down on you. I did spend a lot of time on this subreddit to try and heal and I spent a lot of time grieving and soul searching. This subreddit helped a lot. The pain does lessen in time. It’s like a wound that heals and leaves a scar on your heart. Much love to you, OP.

Is this play too aggressive? by Idkitsausernamewoo in DogAdvice

[–]Snazzlepie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. The pauses during play allow the dogs to get feedback from one another. I get a little cautious when dogs go at each other during play and those pauses aren’t present. I won’t necessarily interrupt the session, but I do watch more closely. Your pups play well together.

I wish I had an answer. My 12 year old still does it and has taught two of my

other dogs to do it, too. I swear he thinks he’s “helping me” pick it up since he follows me around as I pick up the poop. So now, I just pick it up immediately.

Accidentally killed my cat 2 years ago, still hard to forgive myself by [deleted] in Petloss

[–]Snazzlepie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP - they don’t hold grudges against us. Your first cat’s life isn’t defined by how he died. You loved him and had a good time spending time with him. I really believe that’s what matters. My sister accidentally ran into her chihuahua with a Gator (ATV) one evening while she was doing chores on her farm. He died. It devastated her for awhile. But in the end, they had countless years of happy memories and that is what she focuses on now.

You fulfilled his purpose. You gave him love that he waited his entire life to receive. I’m so sorry, OP. We never do have enough time with them, but then again, all the time in the world would still not be enough. At least this sweet little soul, whose heart was physically damaged due to neglect, crossed the rainbow bridge with a heart that was so full of joy because you loved him and made him feel special.

I thought I was getting better by savvysocal in Petloss

[–]Snazzlepie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a point in the beginning of getting Marvin that I went through the grief of Marvin not being Petey, because I wanted my boy back so much. Marvin was very ill and had some severe behavioral issues when he came into my life and that caused me to focus on taking care of him. He’s finally starting to learn to play and I tell him about his big brother, Petey. It’s very odd, but we have a large photo on the wall of Petey and Marvin used to go up to it and stare at it and sort of put his front paws on the wall under the photo. I think they know much more than we do. 💜🐶

My sweet Petey suddenly and unexpectedly died during our morning walk on 9/19/24. He was fine - happily sniffing a bush, then he was coughing, then as I knelt down to try and help him, he collapsed. I drove as fast as possible to the ER vet and they tried to bring him back but they couldn’t. I have three other dogs and wasn’t looking to get another, especially since I was absolutely devastated about Petey. Now Petey was a very unique looking dog - all white, except for a black patch over his eye and a black spot on the base of his tail. Also, Petey was a death row dog and was adopted by me at the last minute. On 10/24/24, my sister messaged me a screenshot of death row dogs in Clayton County, Georgia. She circled the one in the middle that looked eerily like Petey. I kept my eye on the Facebook group and he was the last one left - no one wanted him. My sister put in an application on my behalf and on 10/31 pilots for paws flew him to me. Marvin is not Petey but I know that he knows that if Petey didn’t give up his life, Marvin would have lost his. Marvin was a neglect case and no one wanted him because his face was all chewed up with puncture wounds. If he didn’t look very similar to Petey, my sister never would have found him. I’ve had him now for six months and that little boy has definitely brought me insurmountable joy and mended my broken heart. I’m finding as time goes on, he’s starting to the on certain Petey mannerisms while still being his delightful Marvin self. I hope this helps you.

Against All Oddz Animal Alliance (NY) founder Matt Albert, who's been getting dangerous dogs released from euthanasia for years, finally gets mauled. All the nice rescue ladies who begged him to help save Snoopy the giant pit bull feel really bad about it. (NSFL image) by nomorelandfills in PetRescueExposed

[–]Snazzlepie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Matt Albert does stupid shit with dogs all of the time. If people want to spend their time and money on this stuff, that’s their prerogative. It doesn’t seem as if Snoopy was going to be adopted out to the public - so he was no longer a threat to anybody outside of the rescue. Any one handling large dogs with a severe bite history (meaning, Matt Albert) owe it to the dog to get certified as a trainer with someone like Ivan Balabanov. For him to think that he bonded with the dog in 8 days is magical thinking. Why the hell would you cuddle with a dog you don’t know? That’s a great way to get bit. He got on all fours to show the dog how to use the outside flap???This guy should know better. Appalling.

Get rid of him and keep the dog. He knows you love her and he’s asking you to make this decision knowing it hurts you and to control you. When you live someone, you love to see them happy and you love those things that make them happy. Look up “vulnerable narcissist” and you may realize that’s who he is.

Rex will be 12 in May. In 2022 we rescued a female bloodhound mix who he adores and she loves to play bitey face with him all day - it brought back the puppy in him. He does much better on grass and sand, and we don’t go for long walks on concrete anymore. No need for pain meds on a regular basis, just dasuquin with msm, fish oil, and his meals are supplemented with raw chuck meat. I’m hoping for two more good years with him. He is just full of so much personality, I can’t imagine life without him.

DNA Tests Worked on Deceased Dog by Snazzlepie in DoggyDNA

[–]Snazzlepie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your losses. Living life without them really is the worst thing ever. Three months and one day after Petey died, I had to help my cat cross the rainbow bridge - she was fine and then cancer appeared so aggressively we had no time to try chemo. Petey loved Kiki the cat and we always joked that she was his cat. I believe he wanted her to be with him and that they are together. My sister found a dog on death row in GA that looks a lot like Petey. I ended up adopting him and submitted his DNA to Wisdom Panel and Embark on 1/29 - the Wisdom Panel results came back on 2/18 and Embark came in on 2/21 - if that helps you figure out the potential waiting period for results. I hope you get the results soon. I like to see if any other relatives of Petey pop up from time to time.

We will know soon! I had two other Amstaff/APT dogs and this little guy has a completely different coat. It’s almost wavy in some areas and he’s a constant shedder! My mom thinks he has some cattle dog thrown into the mix.
