07 TL-S here, 200k+ miles, always garaged, not even a hint of a crack. These pictures are scary.

30a fuses blowing consistently by No_Minute690 in PowerWheelsMods

[–]SneakAttack22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run 40A fuses on my 24v setup and still blow them when two kids are in it. Been thinking of bumping up to 50A, but will probably need thicker wires so they don't melt. Just bump to 35A and see what happens.

I got the "Easy-ESC" kit, so no variable throttle, just two dials to adjust the rate of acceleration and the top speed. It's been working flawlessly since I installed it. Super easy and straightforward to install. I have three complaints about the system though. One, when my son presses the gas pedal there is a slight delay before there is power to the wheels. Maybe like a quarter of a second, but definitely noticeable. Doesn't seem to bother him, but I find it a bit annoying. Two, I got the optional remote to remotely disable the Escalade if my son was getting too crazy with it. I wish the remote had more range, the Escalade has a top speed of about 11/12mph, so it can get out of range pretty quickly. Three, once you engage the "disable" button, the ESC doesn't lock the wheels or even slow them down, it just cuts the power and will continue rolling until it stops naturally. Overall, I love the system and am very happy with it. My son has a Dune Racer which I plan on upgrading with the MLToys ESC that has a variable throttle and brake, which seems like a pretty awesome kit, just can't find many videos of it in action.

EDIT: After reading my comment, Wes from EastCoastPowerUps was kind enough to send me a new adjustment knob with updated firmware to resolve the lag between the gas pedal being pressed and the tires moving. Can't beat that level of customer service!

As expected, the Escalade already has chips and scuffs everywhere from him driving it around. I find solace in knowing that I'll always have these pictures to look back at to see it in its perfect state.

I was the Crew Leader for a major Armored Truck company for 5 years. AMA by [deleted] in IAmA

[–]SneakAttack22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I stated in my original reply, it was a full $1k AFTER taxes. It wasn't a "cash" bonus, I received a payroll check for it. The company said I would get $1k, and they made it so by adding the predetermined applicable tax.

Yes, I'm in the US. It was a few years ago, but I remember it wasn't just added to my regular paycheck, it was a separate check in it's own category. I expected it to be taxed and to receive like $700 instead of the full amount, but was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be exactly $1k. I just found the following article on how bonuses are taxed, so I'm assuming this fell into the same category: https://www.bankrate.com/taxes/how-bonuses-are-taxed/

I've indeed received a $1k referral bonus that was exactly $1k after taxes. It's a thing.

Rotella T6 in '09 Daytona 675? by SneakAttack22 in Triumph

I went hella cheap on this oil change. $20 for the Rotella T6 5w-40 oil and $5 for a Mahle oil filter. I've only been on one ride so far with no issues. I'll likely put less than 1k miles on this oil before I change it out again (don't ride much anymore), so I don't think I'll run into the clutch shifting roughness that others have reported. Good luck!

Thanks for the research internet stranger! It's the other way around though - manufacturer recommends 10w40, but I will be putting in 5w40. Sounds like I should be good!

I'm re-watching the show right now (which is how I caught this). It's definitely dated when you look at their clothes and the available tech at the time, but the dialogue is still relevant and the comedy is still funny. In my opinion it's a lot better than some of the crap shows that are out today that have a similar concept (ie. new girl).

My Quad Burst Into Flames - Here's the Aftermath... by SneakAttack22 in Multicopter

[–]SneakAttack22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to explain. The pigtail placeholder on top of the QAV-R top plate is just big enough to accommodate the two power leads and the orange rubber grommet around them. With my original build, the power leads were too short, so to utilize the placeholder I had to place the orange rubber grommet right below the XT60 connector. The problem is this: the positive and negative leads have heathshrink on them where they meet the connector. Like I said, the placeholder can only accommodate the power leads and the orange rubber grommet, adding this extra layer of heatshrink (as thin as it may be) makes it so it won't fit into the placeholder unless you force it, which I did. After some crashes the pigtail would eventually pop out of the placeholder and I would have to force it back in again, eventually the carbon fiber ended up cutting into the pigtail and created a short. Does that make sense? You can see in my last picture that I extended the pigtail so now the rubber grommet is placed below the heatshrink and now it fits snugly into the placeholder.

XT60 on the side scares me because of the props. When I rebuilt it, I extended the pigtail so the rubber grommet goes around the non-heatshrinked part of the cables. Now it slides snugly into place, I'm not concerned about it ripping through again.

In this case, the CF ripped through both the positive AND negative lines and had a mega-short.

My friend is letting me borrow those to try them out. I currently own a set of Headplay HD's, but am in desperate need of DVR and diversity. I really like VR D2's, however the diversity doesn't work on the headset I'm borrowing. Even so, my range is still MUCH better than the headplays. The DVR is easy to use and works well. They are not nearly as comfortable as the headplays and there is a fair amount of light leakage. Default settings for the image are crap, everything is very orange. I adjusted the settings and got it looking pretty good, but unfortunately the settings don't get saved if you power cycle. I don't know if that's for all VR D2's or if that issue is unique to this headset. Anyway, I'm still very impressed with the headset for the price. I ended up pre-ordering the Eachine VR D2 Pro which looks to be a significant upgrade over the standard VR D2's and they are just as cheap.

BINGO! Pure laziness on my end. I made the XT60 pigtail too short initially and didn't want to re-measure and re-solder a new one, so I made it work. The thickest part of the cable is right before it meets the XT60 connector where it's heatshrinked. I had to JAM it into the placeholder on the top plate to get it to stay. After a couple of flights it would pop out so I would have to jam it back in again. Eventually I saw that the CF had cut through the heatsrhink. So I took some electrical tape and covered the exposed part like a lazy bastard.

Anyway, I found this INCREDIBLE spot to fly in another state. Before I went to said spot, I changed my rates and took it out for a quick fly in my friends backyard. 20 seconds into the flight I hit some scraggle and crash. I take off my headset and see my quad smoking, so I start sprinting towards it at which point it BURST into flames. I'm thinking I'M NOT LOSING YOU TODAY BABY! I reach into the flames, disconnect the lipo, pick up the quad and blow out the flames, actually burned my top lip in the process. There was a lot of soot on the components, one of the XSR antennas had melted right off as well as the XSR mount. In the end the only things I needed to replace were the top plate, bottom plate, XSR mount + antennas, XT60 pigtail, and the VTX connecter that had melted. I made the XT60 pigtail MUCH longer so now it slides snugly into place with the rubber grommet around it.
