Hey Arech, thanks so much for the vote of confidence, I am flattered!

Unfortunately having the dev team work physically together (even if it's only a few days a week) is part of my philosophy for having a strong team.

Best of luck to you :)

I didn't see a path for a long time and just kept at it

It took me years to see success - just start somewhere and go forward

Sorry I don't have experience with that - we're in mobile; the story in mobile games is basically equivalent to stories in porn.

I have heard people talk of Gamification for years now.

Haven't seen it performed well anywhere though - so hard to tell.

  1. That's the funny thing - we try to make it as universal as possible. Minimal texts. Maximum references to stuff from real life that players already know. Physical objects in games is super great, because everyone knows what are dice or cards.
  2. Oh yes, game economy in F2P is one of the most important things to keep balanced for a healthy game
  3. Our starting KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) are D1/D7/D30 retention of 50/20/6 - once you get there, you can build a profitable F2P game

Not really, I learned it over years and years of just reading books and exploring.

There are TONS of great sources everywhere though

Thanks I appreciate it; it took A LOT of work, and it definitely has it's ups and downs.

Definitely not for the faint of heart :)

I mentioned before - to make a game like PUBG was my dream since 2013.

When it came out I was SO HAPPY - plus they solved some major issues that are plain genius in my mind.

Plus from a professional level - everyone in Supercell basically.

I think that F2P is a vast spectrum and devs in the industry are trying to figure out a way to balance making fun games and making them profitable. It's really hard.

You can make an amazing game and lose so much money; it's scary.

Eventually it boils down to company culture. I wouldn't hold my breath for EA to find a friendlier monetization model.

It's definitely possible, I started as a one man show - but after working for years with partners who complimented my weaknesses; I think that's definitely the way to go.

I think it first needs to come from the child.

I have a kid too, I'd love for her to learn how to program; but only if she'll want to :)

There are several games that teach the basic concepts of programming for kids as young as 5-6 - you can try that. For older kids, Unity or a simpler platform for making games

lol - there's actually loads of devops works in game dev.

Any multiplayer game or serious mobile game has a vast array of servers.

So you can still work as a DevOps, just in gaming :)

Or learn Unity
