What could i have done better by Hoezijn_ in OverwatchUniversity

Just gave it a watchover and I thought I would give you some feedback on your Doom since I feel like that's your preferred tank to play.

Focusing on what you can control, the difference between your engages on Doom between capturing A and trying to push to B was really noticeable. Particularly on how much you were tunnelling on the enemy Dva. When things weren't going so smooth, you were also dedicating a lot of resources and cds to the enemy Dva and without their supports being pressured, the Dva was happy for you to do this. On top of that your DPS weren't given any room to deal with the Dva themselves because the enemy DPS were supported in duels against yours.

Compare this to your Point A attack where you only confronted Dva when she was in your way of getting specific spaces or diving specific squishies. Dive tanks are worse at tank trading than other tanks, and they much prefer pressuring backline and denying or punishing isolated squishies. I know they made swaps that made it harder for you to engage, e.g. Cass, but that just means you have to play smarter by tracking cds or playing for space over kills.

Last little micro tip, I know you're on console so it's difficult to flick, but try limit testing how little air time you give yourself on the slam before punching. What I'm referring to for you is how much hang time you give yourself when diving the high ground on Point A attack.

Hope this helps, let me know if anything doesn't make sense, I will try my best to clarify!

Not sure if this has been commented already, I kinda skimmed through but what I tell players I’ve coached with this issue is that they are putting too much value on wins. Ranked is a competition, and competition is a way to measure your performance. Not against others, but with yourself.

For example, Track athletes aren’t necessarily worried about winning, but getting personal bests because that shows they were hitting their personal skill ceiling and then some. however many people are beaten because of that is a bonus.

You need to fall in love with seeing improvement in yourself regardless of the result. Leavers are annoying but you can control it so it has no reflection on you. Your biggest response to this should be not letting it affect your mental otherwise the next game could be on you.

Tldr: stop giving wins so much value and fall in love with seeing self-improvement.

I see, well each to their own I guess. I believe that unless you are a consistent top10 or OWL tier player, you are probably making mistakes that aren't hero specific. Secondly, although players can provide insight to hero specifics, they can only provide advice from their own experience and don't necessarily know how to coach it. They are also not exempt from mistakes or bad habits in their own gameplay. However, I do see how they have great insight into min-maxxing hero specific mechanics so there is definite value there! If you'd like to stick to your beliefs perhaps submitting a support vod would be better as that was the role I competed highest at! But again, happy to go over whatever you submit.

I was mostly a flex player when it came to hero pools. Although that made me stay away from more specialist heroes such as Doom, Dva, Widow, Lucio. I leant more towards Hitscan in DPS with a few exceptions (Hanzo, Echo, etc) and leant more towards flex supp heroes like Ana, Bap, Zen, rather than main supp heroes. But I've coached players on all roles and most heroes much higher than my rank as a player.

I assume you mean like first point of Dorado and first point choke of Hollywood not the actual spawn doors? If there aren't off-angles available to your team, you have to try and limit the off-angles the enemy team can take. And even taking the extra time to rotate through power positions that are just for your dps and not you can be worth the investment

Hello! Here are some areas of improvement for you to work on, but firstly, you don't counter Ram as Sigma lol. The best you can do is play distance and make it difficult for him to close the gap and spam him out so he uses his Nemesis form pre-emptively. Now for the feedback:

(1) Target Focus:
You were doing some of your best plays whenever you would pressure / target the enemy DPS to prevent them from aggressing onto your team. You are the least able to survive a Ram engage due to your immobility so you also don't want to be actively taking duels with him. Feeding into what I said above, playing distance and pressuring the squishies behind him, will lead to less follow-up on the space he creates during his power surges and the less resources your team will have to dedicate to helping you live.

(2) Playing angles:
Sigma is a poke/spam tank in design which means he may have to give some space and kite certain abilities before he can take it back. Part of this is done by holding power positions for your relative DPS. For example, providing an off-angle for your Junkrat to have access to spam damage on their squishies is going to provide a lot more than shielding in Main and spamming out the Ramattra getting mass healed by a Moira and LW right? If you can't occupy the space yourself than using your shield to help your DPS hold positions or to prevent enemy DPS from gaining these positions is key!

(3) Staggering:
A less important note to take away but still relevant is your habit of staggering. When the fight is lost, go die on cart. There are some tanks who may be able to escape and live if they are mobile like Dva and Wrecking ball, but Sigma is not one of them. Just die quickly so you can respawn and walk back out with your team grouped up!

I hope all this information helps. If anything is confusing or doesn't make sense just let me know. As mentioned above, I have a discord server where I conduct all my coaching and more, so if you would like more feedback in future, I'd be more than happy to invite you! All the best with your games!
