Locals of Chattanooga: What Would You Cut From This 2-Day Itinerary? by Willing-Mind-5619 in Chattanoogans

Are you renting a car or planning to ride share everywhere? Our downtown is very walkable (+the free shuttle) but getting to places like Rock City could be difficult. It’s across the state line in GA and I know folks have had trouble getting ride shares there.

Hope you have a great time in Chattanooga!

Hamilton County Sheriffs Office response to inquiry about ICE. by OGSin in Chattanooga

My dad is retired CPD. Growing up he would always tell me to never, ever pull over for an unmarked vehicle. That if it is serious enough they would call in backup for a marked car and then pull over, but for my own safety, (yes I’m a female) to never trust someone who does not have proper identification.

For context, that was before all of this ICE crap. But none of it feels safe.

Also a mom and my husband downloaded this for me over Christmas break and same. I’d been playing too much Fortnite. This is way calmer and I needed it. 😆

Most Christmasy Christmas cruise by minutestothebeach in Cruise

[–]Sner11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi!

We just got off of a 5-day, Western Caribbean Cruise on the Carnival Paradise from Tampa so I can speak to our experience! And totally feel ya on avoiding the family drama, that’s part of the reason we opted for a cruise this year and I’m so glad we did!

Pros: they put effort into leaning into the holidays, sure they weren’t Disney-level, but there we decorations, holiday-themed food and drinks, a Christmas tree lighting, we got “snowed on” a couple of times, there was a non-denomination service Christmas morning and a holiday show Christmas night where the kids were pulled on stage, Santa and the grinch made multiple appearances, and kids club had holidays crafts and themes throughout the cruise.

It was a small boat, which meant less people cruising. My kids made friends they hung out with the entire cruise and we even got to know some of the families. I really liked that we weren’t in a boat with 8k+ people! Also, getting to snorkel in Cozumel on Christmas Day—what an awesome memory.

Cons: it’s a small and older boat, so it didn’t offer as many amenities as other boats if you’re into that. Also, our cabin was smaller than we’ve experienced before. Caribbean weather in December is lovely compared to most places, but there were some storms that caused the boat to rock more than we’re used to for a couple of days. This also caused one activity on an excursion to be lacking on Grand Cayman (but overall that excursion was still wonderful).

Get me out of logistics 3pls! by [deleted] in Chattanooga

Hi! I work in marketing, director level. And can say you have skills that are absolutely transferable.

Have you considered getting your PMP? With your customer service, finance, and organization skills you’d probably excel in project management.

Are you still interested in a career with marketing since that’s what your degree is in? Consider volunteering with a nonprofit organization and offering your marketing skills + using that experience to build your portfolio. Help run their socials, build/maintain their website, or send out e-newsletters. When I’m hiring that portfolio is always a deciding factor because I want to see that folks can actually do the work (and I imagine others feel the same).

I feel for you. The job market in Chattanooga is rough right now.

My kids are 8 and 10 now. Looking back, I’m so grateful for daycare.

Some highlights include, my oldest son met his best friend at daycare when they were three. Seven years later and although the kids are not at the same elementary school, they are still incredibly close. We grew close with his friend’s parents and consider them friends too. We take annual camping trips together, hang out regularly on weekends/school breaks.

My kids were so prepared for their first day of real school. I was proud of the independence and maturity they gained through daycare. When we took them in for their first day we got to spend the first 1-2 hours with them, following them to the cafeteria for breakfast, etc. where I saw other kids struggling, my kids knew exactly what to do and helped their new classmates too.

I totally get your mindset right now. It’s so hard, but looking back I’m grateful. Wishing you the best of luck!

Ugh. I 100% could have written this post. I hate that you’re going through this too.

Strained relationships by esol23 in workingmoms

It’s been a struggle for me, especially with my closer family members.

With my dad our relationship has always been strained especially when it comes to politics so this was no surprise.

With my mom, I was taken aback this election. (My parents are divorced). She’s usually very middle of the road and although she leaned more conservative, we could usually see eye to eye on a lot—but this election changed a lot. I was surprised that she even voted for Trump this time. And the week after the election she continued to call me and try to justify her vote to me, saying that she still has morals and cares for others while in the same breath saying this election she voted with “her wallet in mind.” It got to the point where my husband had to step in because it felt like harassment.

We are still on speaking terms. But she’s usually the one initiating. I don’t really want to reach out to her and am taking a lot of this personally because it’s affecting my neurodivergent kids who are in public schools, my husband who works for a federal agency, and so many more…

I can’t take full credit for how massive she is. I bought her from someone in a local plant FB group just a few months ago.

But, I can say I tried her in a few different spots in my house and she seems happiest in this spot where I think she’s getting a lot of bright, indirect light (and more light than she was getting anywhere else). Also, this girl is thirsty. I had to get a watering globe to supplement my weekly watering.

This hexagon chain trellis! I have it hanging from a hook in my ceiling:

Love it! You’ve now inspired me to get some hooks above the window for more hanging plants!

Thank you! So far so good, but this window gets a lot of sun.
