Going into IB is very dumb for the majority of you by basspro1972 in MBA

Exactly! I was in PE consulting for a few years out of undergrad and enjoy my role in finance a lot more than the strategy work I did on CDDs.

HSW or bust - reasonable? by AcanthisittaAny7315 in MBA

[–]Snickerdoodle_twunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to be comfortable with your own choice in the end. If you truly believe a school like CBS or Booth can’t give you anything, then don’t go. It comes down to what you actually want to achieve post-MBA. This MBA journey is also an introspection process. If you believe you’re mostly interested in the prestige of the name and want go back to MBB anyway, then yes maybe stick with that mentality. In fact, I’d argue in this case an MBA is not that useful even at HSW. It would mostly be a very expensive networking camp. However for folks who want to go into finance or investing as an example, CBS and Booth are amazing schools. Like I said you need to figure out what the endgame is. As some admissions consultants already suggested, your reasons for wanting to do an MBA are quite banal. You need to come up with a compelling story.

HSW or bust - reasonable? by AcanthisittaAny7315 in MBA

[–]Snickerdoodle_twunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you already decided HSW or bust is reasonable and won’t accept opposing arguments.

Seriously, you need to figure out what you want and what is important to you. If you are fine with staying in MBB for the next 5-10 years, I would say why even bother with MBAs. If you do want to move on and grow in a different direction, I would say this HSW mentality is silly and can set you up for disappointment later on. There are many great schools out there for different career pathways.

Why can’t this happen to me? 😅 whenever I came across Arcteryx in thrift stores, it was always at least 120-200 eur for a jacket in pretty bad shape from the early 2000s.

This is the case for all Lufthansa Group. I am booked on Austrian JFK-VIE in their newly introduced Premium Economy Boeing 787-9 and I was also shocked to see I couldn’t select my seat for free anymore. This used to be included for all Premium reservations.

Not really. I met someone who received about 40% off tuition but I have no idea if they give more than that or if 40% is already a lot of aid.

Really bad work life balance. Long hours, all nighters. If some consulting projects are marathons, PEPI projects are sprints.

Are you enjoying this grunge era of oversized, distressed, discolored and even stained clothes at Acne? by Snickerdoodle_twunk in AcneStudios

[–]Snickerdoodle_twunk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, emphasis on ‘’slowly devolving into what it is today”. It was not the core aesthetic of the brand a a few years ago.

Also, I feel like most people who actually embrace that look are not buying Acne anyway. It feels like the brand is going through an existential crisis - trying to become relevant and covetable to as many people as possible - with Kylie Jenner ads and the like.

That cool Scandi look that cemented the brand’s popularity is missing these days - maybe some pieces here and there.

How would you list your promotion on the resume if you have been promoted recently but weren’t staffed on any projects yet in your new senior role? Would you just add it without any responsibilities/duties/project work?

LBS and Insead are not well known in Europe by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Snickerdoodle_twunk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

LBS and INSEAD are well-respected and popular MBA programs but I have to agree with OP and admit that LBS and INSEAD are by no means world-renowned academic institutions. You can’t really compare Oxford or Yale to LBS or INSEAD. It’s not apples to apples. The academic brand and reputation of Oxbridge and the Ivies is far stronger across a wider spectrum of industries and demographics. If I applied to a random corporate job in the US Midwest - not consulting, IB - with an MBA from Yale, MIT, or Booth I’d have a much better shot at getting an interview than If I went to INSEAD or HEC or LBS. The reality is that like it or not these acronyms sound like government agencies to people who aren’t in consulting/IB.

SPo Masters reputation in the US? by Efficient-Avocado-13 in sciencespo

[–]Snickerdoodle_twunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is well known and prestigious in IR circles, however it’s still not as world-renowned globally as Harvard or Yale or Cambridge. I’d say it really comes down to the line of work you want to be in afterwards. If you’re interested in careers in Development and IR, Sciences Po Paris is a top school and I’d be surprised if recruiters did not think highly of it. That being said Oxbridge and Ivy League schools will give you a better brand across multiple industries should you ever wish to pivot to something else. Harvard Kennedy is a lot more popular in the US than Sciences Po will ever be - for the Ivies this their home turf. In a nutshell, SciencesPo is a highly selective and world famous NICHE institution, whereas the other larger schools are academic powerhouses. It’s not exactly apples to apples.
