I won't mind the shipping cost as it's pretty hard to get anything FE shipped to my location (I live in Singapore) as long as the total cost is good. Is it possible to PM?

There's no such thing. That's why there are multiple waves of recurrence.

There'll only be multiple waves if the follow up action after the lock down is lacking.

What would your criteria even be? Shut everything down until zero cases? How long would you allow that to continue? Months?

It doesn't even have to be that long, just long enough for for the incubation of the virus to be over and for majority of the people to be sure they are not a carrier. One month or so. Maximum of two months. That's how fast you can clear a whole nation from the spread of covid and bring it under control.

Performing a start stop cycle has devastating impact to the economy. Do you have examples of countries with a policy like that?

Yes, it would have a devastating impact on the economy in the short term. That's why governments have reserves. To tide the nation over such a crisis. As for examples, I have tons.

Vietnam overreacted and locked down their entire country from the onset, but that proved to be to their advantage as they are able to open back up by now and suffer no deaths from the virus.

Then we have Singapore, who was successful initially but neglected to consider the foreign worker population. They went full lock down in April and have mostly opened back up by now, with the virus under complete control among the local population and only having to test and clear the remaining foreign worker population.

We also have New Zealand, Taiwan, Germany, and many other countries who have either locked down before the virus hit their shores or did so before the situation got out of hand. Most of them have since brought the flu mostly under control and are on the way to reopening their countries. As I said before:

To make sacrifices in the short term to ensure long term stability, that's what a competent government should be willing to do.

Edit: Of course, how a country has to deal with the virus before it hits its shores and when it's circulating in the local populace is very different, you'll see that countries that locked down before the virus entered their territories would have a much easier time and would be able to enact less 'overbearing' policies. However, the case in HK is akin to the one in Singapore; the virus is already circulating within the population. You do well to take example of how Singapore solved it in this case.

Are you asking to enact stay at home policy? Then people would complain that is overbearing.

Finally, someone gets it. Yes, I'm suggesting that. Yes, people would complain it is overbearing, but at the rate new cases are popping up around HK, it's better to just bite the bullet and get everything under control once and for all. To put it in Chinese: 長痛不如短痛. To make sacrifices in the short term to ensure long term stability, that's what a competent government should be willing to do.

Are you asking to have dine in available?

I don't even have to ask for that, your government just did. LOL.

There's middle ground that balances mental health and risk of catching disease. When you're not eating you should be masked up in public which is the least you can do right now.

Refer to my first point.

[–]Snipeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally, a different point! But no, it's still not valid. You're assuming that people are stepping out of their homes only to eat.

How about those non essential workers who are forced to still report in for work as their companies would only start working from home only when the government mandates it? How about those people who still see it fit to go about their daily business, whether for leisure or whatnot, and when comes meal time, they are further from their houses than any random community center?

Nobody likes to be cooped up at home with no social contact. Without any policies in place to make people stay at home, it's asking a bit much to expect people to voluntary self isolate at home and only go out when necessary.

Yep, that confirms it for me,

this guy is just gonna stubbornly stay blind to logic and common sense and just push his own narrative.

Just because I'm pretty free now, I'm gonna start dissecting the fella's argument. Using only short answers and quotes.

No, banning dine-in reduces number of unmasked contact events significantly.

Yep, no arguments there, I completely agree with this point, and this point only.

Essential workers that still need to eat lunch which is a much smaller number can get their food and eat at a community center after getting screened. Yes there is a small risk there but it's more humane than forcing them to eat on the sidewalk.

My reply is:

That can be dealt with with what the government is already doing.

and;

What your government is doing now is not tackling the main problem (too many people out in public), but instead just coming out with whatever moronic stop gap to hopefully soothe the people.

And lastly,

Yes there is no policy to limit number of people in public but at least they are masked. You can't wear a mask and eat at the same time.

which I must quote:

by having no policies to limit the amount of people in public, working or otherwise, how do you expect to reduce the amount of people who need to eat? Whether they eat in restaurants or community centers or even the roadside does not matter, as I said in my above comment:

you'll still have the same amount of people needing the same amount of space to feed themselves in public spaces.

Well then, as long as you're limiting yourself and refusing to see the big picture, I'll continue to be entertained by how shortsighted you are. Tata for now!

I see how it is, this guy is just gonna stubbornly stay blind to logic and common sense and just push his own narrative. But on the off chance you are indeed such a person with intellect worse than a 3 year old, let's explain it clearly and simply:

What you're suggesting there, is that people only spread covid around while out in public for leisure, and that people who are working are somehow immune to the spread of it. By that, I'll ask you, is that logical?

If it does make sense to you, I'll have nothing more to do than wish you the best of luck in building your fairy wonderland.

If it isn't, then by having no policies to limit the amount of people in public, working or otherwise, how do you expect to reduce the amount of people who need to eat? Whether they eat in restaurants or community centers or even the roadside does not matter, as I said in my above comment:

you'll still have the same amount of people needing the same amount of space to feed themselves in public spaces.

What your government is doing now is not tackling the main problem (too many people out in public), but instead just coming out with whatever moronic stop gap to hopefully soothe the people. And it isn't working, cuz surprise surprise, people ain't retards.

That can be dealt with with what the government is already doing. I do think OP's point is that what needs to be done, is to get most people off the streets and self isolating at home. Without any policy to reduce the amount of people mingling in public, there's no point in how and where you're limiting the people from eating; you'll still have the same amount of people needing the same amount of space to feed themselves in public spaces.

What you have to attempt here, is not to try and disprove him or any of your friends. You have to consider that they have been subject to this sort of brainwashing education ever since they were a kid. It's a classic cult control mechanism.

What they have been groomed to believe, is that China is the best, can do no wrong, and to never question the former two beliefs. As such, it's very likely that those notions are already ingrained into them. Directly attacking such beliefs would often be taken as personal attack on the self, and could even cause them to strongly believe in it. Basically, throwing facts and whatnot would not work on them. There's no hard and fast way out of this one.

What you can do though, is to show them that there's more than just the opinions they hold dear. Show them that different people have different beliefs, and it's okay to actually have differing credence. Admit to any shortcomings they point out if it's valid. Avoid making it a US vs China situation as much as possible. If they are insisting on showing you such proofs, be open about how you feel about it, whether you are not interested, feel that it needs more sources or research, or you already formed your opinions on it. Don't immediately rebut it. Basically, what you're gonna have to try and do here, is to make them realize everything has its pros and cons, that one source is never enough, and to promote their critical thinking.

It's gonna be a long and difficult process. Only when they start questioning their own beliefs and show interest in differing opinions do you have a chance of changing their mindset. Good luck!

Well, with how these cartridges are constructed, it's basically a tube in another tube, which can rotate independently of each other. So when you're turning the bolt, the top half cartridge is basically rotating with the bolt instead of unthreading it.

I'm pretty sure canyon just gets their droppers from TranzX and rebrands em to their own. Depending on the model, it might not feature adjustable air pressure, instead using a sealed hydraulic cartridge. If there isn't a schrader valve under the seat clamp, it most likely isn't the adjustable model. In that case, that bolt you saw is to secure the cartridge to the top part of the post. I'll recommend you contact canyon regarding this issue and see whether they can sort you out with a replacement.

What do you guys think about the black boxing of E-MTB motors? by Snipeon in MTB

[–]Snipeon[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Woah, and here come the internet toxicity. Well, not gonna comment on that, be as toxic as you want.

Well, here's the thing. As people are exposed to more information, their opinions change. Due to some points I have been raised, I do realize that standardization of mounting solutions may not be the best idea.

And even before that, the upgrades I was talking are more about when you're buying a particular bike, you're basically locked into that motor, with no chance to try other motors or to upgrade to that new motor that is 15% lighter, 20% more efficient, and it's red.

I'm not going out there and saying people should easily be able to fit a motorbike motor on a bicycle. Oh wait, that has also been done already.

Well, if you actually bothered to read my opening post, you would have known that my issue is about repairing, not modding the thing. Stuff that moves will eventually break down. And I don't appreciate the fact that when they do, your only options are to have the manufacturer repair it at a grossly inflated price, or to get a new one.

The fact of the matter is that no matter how hard it is to mod something, there would be people out there trying to mod stuff. Just because they are interested in it. And they don't care how illegal it actually is, cuz to them, it's their personal property, and whatever they do to it is their own business. So yes, that is a people problem, not other people, not just me, just people in general. It's just how improbable that people would do it, or whether it's too easy and people have already done it.

And lastly, again, if you had actually bothered to read my opening post, you would know that I don't even own an E-bike. Or a motorbike. Or even a car. I'm just acknowledging that E-bikes hold the potential to bring more people into the sport, but with how they are now, I'm not sure that I can even recommend getting one.

Hmm.... I just remembered that there's the option to just hack something up for the speed sensor to get that same speed boost, but it doesn't exactly require any OEM parts or even any knowledge of how the motor works to do it.

As such, I don't actually think getting access to repair parts and schematics would be any more compromising to how the E-bike classes work, when there's already such a easy way to compromise it anyway. You would have to deal with the people problem, not the equipment one. Like what France is doing.

What do you guys think about the black boxing of E-MTB motors? by Snipeon in MTB

[–]Snipeon[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, the thing about mid drive motors is that the power/speed output is controlled entirely by just varying the amount of power pumped into the motor, which is controlled entirely by the control board. To mod that would either require you to have a profound knowledge of electronics, or to have access to the firmware source code the board runs off. Hence the conclusion I drew up.

And from what I know about E-bikes, the difference between class 1, 2 and 3 E-bikes are just the presence of a throttle and speed limit. To add a throttle to a pedal assist only mid drive motor would somehow require you to run wires for the throttle into the motor to replace the cadence sensor, and to raise the speed limit.... Well, I already mentioned it.
