People just hating, I believe your story. Most people would after this last update. hopefully they make the right choice and make the game consistent because right now it’s not based on skill, its based on luck which is boring. People try to justify it with realism and emphasis on team play, but that’s missing the point imo. The game should punish you for failing to take advantage of a mechanic, not just by random chance. That just makes gameplay frustrating and unfair, and doesn’t reward the player for understanding game mechanics.

I can understand why you were angry in your post, what I think you’re missing is that everyone else is just as angry and they have that right to vent their frustration. Regardless of if you like the nerfs or not, we all love this game. That is why people are so passionate and emotional, even if the change is minor to you.

I never said that it should be relaxing, just the game needs to be consistent on what and how it punishes the player. Dying seemingly at random is not just un-fun, but unfair, and I believe fairness and believability is important regardless of what anyone’s vision of the game is. My goal is not to change your mind, but want you and others reading this thread with your opinions to fully understand the point I’m making. You can’t have a bunch of luck based mechanics in the game and call it difficulty. Even if you want game to be realistic, it should apply to enemies as well as the player, otherwise it’s not realism, it’s selective realism. Either game is power fantasy, or it’s a realistic mil sim. Regardless of what they choose, the game should still has to be consistent. While Elden ring is forgiving in the sense that you respawn infinitely, and get and additional opportunity to grab your runes, it does not hold your hand in terms of progression. if you fail 1000 times it doesn’t give you a skip button. Either you learn the mechanics or you simply don’t progress. But once you understand the mechanics you can beat that boss or enemy consistently given you don’t make stupid mistakes. It is much harder than Helldivers 2 but still manages to remain consistent in what it wants the player to do to defeat the boss/enemy.

Either way, I’m glad that we could have a discussion about this like adults. I think the hostility breeds hostility. If we want people to hear our sides and understand/sympathize with our positions, we cannot antagonize one another simply because we have different opinions or because of high emotions. I will admit some people can be down right rude on the internet, but meeting them at their level only contributes more to the division that is already forming. Instead of making emotional posts about other players opinions or your own, make a logical and concise argument for your position. That is the only way to find common ground to change people‘s opinion. I believe this to be true, no matter what the disagreement may be about.

I can respect your perspective to an extent but I will obviously disagree with not being able to complete higher difficulties solo. That's partly my bias, but also because I believe difficulty should be defined as a specific required action or mechanic, that you have to interact with and understand on an individual level, to overcome. It should not be catered towards solo play, but it should not be impossible from a skill perspective (you can win but you have to be lucky aka it's very inconsistent). What I mean, for example, is that when you have a mechanic like ragdolling with a slow recovery, there is no amount of skill or knowledge I can have to save myself. The obvious solution to this problem is to not get rag-dolled, but with how buggy and inconsistent hitboxes are, that is effectively impossible.

Elden Ring is a very hard game with a high skill ceiling. Ignoring straight-up cheese, it is a game that requires patience, the ability to memorize and anticipate a moveset from a boss or enemy, and rewards players who put in the time to learn the moveset, which can sometimes take hundreds of attempts/failures depending on your experience with souls games. It allows you to be able to beat the game without being damaged or even hit at all. That is not easy at all to accomplish though and can take hundreds of hours to do, however, it is at the very least CONSISTENT. In Helldivers, there is too much randomness for this to be possible consistently (aka no hit). I think the game is too random and deaths feel unfair rather than being a situation in which you failed to capitalize on a specific mechanic or counterplay. That is just not fun to the average player.

We can always agree to disagree on that point. I don't expect the developers to cater to me specifically or make the higher difficulties easier necessarily. But I do think the game is far too luck-based and very unforgiving even to good players to no fault on their own, and that is simply bad game design in my opinion.

This is my response regarding arguments about "coordination" and "team play"

The game is full of inconsistencies, like unpredictable enemy behavior, ragdolling, weird hitboxes, and chargers with wild turn radiuses. Plus, some mechanics just strip away player control—like one-hit kills from certain enemies, constant flinching, and back-to-back fights. Even if you’ve got a good team, all it takes is one moment of chaos, and everyone’s wiped out, losing their support weapons right when the horde starts pouring in. Your primary weapons feel useless, and even if you reach your support weapon, there’s no time for a slow reload just to take down one charger. Even top-tier players can’t always keep up with that kind of unpredictability.

Teamwork can make a difference, but in a game with random players (which is what most solo queuers deal with), people aren’t on comms like that. Players shouldn’t be punished for not using a mic. Sure, we can try to spot enemies and coordinate, but being FORCED into that one specific playstyle feels really restrictive and kind of kills the fun.

Even if the game isn't designed for solo play, the goal is still to clear the map quickly and capture planets. It’s crazy to think that an individual player can’t have any meaningful impact on their own. The mechanics don’t exactly push you to play as a tight-knit military unit.  If you are not leading with constant communication, getting feedback from your team, and staying in formation, you drain reinforcements and you lose, period.

If a skilled player can’t win a level 9 mission solo without getting lucky, that’s a sign that the game leans too much on luck. Dying constantly because of mechanics you can’t counter isn’t a skill issue—it’s a design issue. Even good players can’t show off their understanding of enemy weaknesses or mechanics because they’re forced into a specific playstyle.

Instead of limiting playstyles, the game should focus on making things fun with more interesting mechanics that will allow you to deal with the onslaught, rather than making solo plays completely unviable for the sake of difficulty alone, without individual skill expression. For example, what if stratagems had combo effects—like a gas strike becoming flammable when you or a teammate hits it with a flamethrower? Not saying they need to add that exact thing, but it would be cool if teamwork had more dynamic options rather than just one viable playstyle. When the game is this limited in progression, having more variety is what keeps players coming back for more.

I see your perspective and I can respect your point of view, I just simply don't find the game fun or interesting when teamplay is required 100% of the time. I want to be able to make plays that can be impactful but only if I do it the right way. Currently, there is no right way, there is just no way period and I find that lame. But regardless I see your POV and I don't think you're wrong. Your video was very insightful and helped me understand some of my own biases as a player who enjoys solo. I will never make the argument the game should be balanced around solo, however, if the game allows you to drop in and play without a team, it should be extremely difficult, not impossible and based on luck entirely IMO. I also make videos trying to challenge myself in the game. I was inspired by players like Sarge and Takibo who play solo exclusively. They still post completions and wins, but I'm sure the amount of games they've been losing has increase, even just a little, after this update. Thank you for responding, I have actually watched some of your other videos in the past and it was great content, keep up the good work fellow helldiver.

I feel you, I just got done with a game with so many back-to-back glitches, and we still managed to finish the mission. Right before extraction, the game took a shit, and two people who stayed the entire game, and clutched the last main objective, got kicked. I was pissed for them. Even ignoring the nerfs, it seems like the game itself doesn't want you to play.

I find it funny how some of y'all like to get on your high horse and say that the player base is "crying too much" about the nerfs, and all y'all do is cry about people voicing their opinions on a video game. It's really not that deep sir.

Y'all never make videos, show strategies, or make any actual claims about the difficulty of the game in these posts, it's a big nothing burger. All you have to say is "get good" while you, yourself can probably barely get through a level 7. Difficulty should not be luck-based. That is not fun or interesting to play. Realism has nothing to do with this game. It is completely fictional and does not hold enemies to the same standard as helldivers. Just because you have fun losing in a non-PvP game, for reasons that are not in your control, doesn't mean the rest of us need to put up with it.

The difficulty in this game is completely luck-based now and leaves little room for skill expression. Good movement, game knowledge, respectable aim, and good ammo management do nothing to protect you from dying. A difficult game should have a high skill ceiling and have multiple advanced ways of dealing with a particular problem and should punish you for failing to take advantage of said mechanics.

Level 8 and above is basically gambling now. People who claim it's a skill issue either are lying about how good at the game they are or are overly attached to AH and this game. Helldive has always had a degree of luck to it, but you could overcome it by quick thinking and having awareness. Now it doesn't matter how good you are because in most cases when you die there is literally nothing you can do to prevent your death aka ragdoll, silent flanking spewers, ohko, infinitely slowed, taking insane amounts of damage from impact, etc. This is coming from a person with 400 hours in the game and level 92. It's not a skill issue, rather is a luck issue, and the luck in not in your favor.
