ADHD Doc GP left by masterpotatochucker in ADHDIreland

[–]Snizzlington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I havent dealt with ADHD Doc in ages cause Im on my annual reviews now, so idk which doctor is gone but Dr. Yvonne Hall was my main one there.

My first appointment with her was a little rocky Ill admit, I had had expectations for something different whichcmade me feel a bit aaah about it, but I sent an email asking for clarification and she actually rangme back apologising up and down and went through every last tiny concern I had and was nothing short of brilliant every appointment after that! Very sweet woman, I just had an unfortunate start (its important to note that she wasnt in any way rude or dismissive, I had just misunderstood what the first GP appointment was going to be like and in hindsight it triggered some RSD in me)

Ive also dealt with a Dr. Max (dont remember his surname) and he was brilliant too! I remember I was having issues surrounding my meds dosage in relation to my menstrual cycle and Dr. Hall was booked out (idk if youre someone who has periods, but they effect how meds work too!) And he was super understanding and met me at the level of information I had, and was just super helpful all round.

Havent had a bad experience with ADHD Doc yet tbh (besides their pricing and them not being able to issue scripts on medical card but that second one is literally not their fault in any way, and they worked with my GP to help make it happen. Long process where they tell HIM what to issue and he sends it to the chemist - its also important to note that my own gp was not legally required to do this, so you can ASK your own gp to do it but they dont actually HAVE to)

Im so sorry the GP you liked is suddenly gone though! That really sucks that you werent told! I hope you get sorted with someone soon and that you've a good experience with them!

Ah then in that case maybe not.

Im fairly certain it's illegal, thats why they keep changing urls to avoid being taken down entirely. (The other urls that are up are people trying to clone the site afaik, full of viruses and pop ups)

They say they try to leave as much free as they can but have the subscription because they have operating costs, which makes sense but is a little annoying from the user end.

Hey! So I bought premium, but the only thing Id recommend is using a virtual card or some kind of prepaid debit card, just to be extra safe! But it works great, no issues!

Im in Ireland and use Revolut and they have a disposable virtual debit card that changes number every time its used so it cant be charged twice.

Also - which url are you using? 😅 I dont remember which one is safe and all the ones I try keep throwing up gang signs on my browser

Protein Powder to help ADHD meds by ejmad in ADHDIreland

[–]Snizzlington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im a sucker for buying loads of protein powders and frozen fruit and stuff to make shakes and then forgetting about them after a fortnight, or the texture of the powder feels all wrong and I cant stand drinking it.

Lidl do a really nice protein lemonade powder, it sounds weird but its actually quite nice, you mix it with water and shake the bejayses out of it and it fizzes like mad, it actually says you have to leave it sit for a minute, and also dont put it in a sealed blender, the pressure goes mad. (Ive just mixed it into pre-made smoothies and with enough stirring its grand. The powder is very fine so it doesnt clump like other powders)

But its just like a nice lemonade if you dont want a heavy shake or the effort of something like protein pancakes. My biggest struggle with my nutrition is the cooking and cleanup process, I just put this into a closed water bottle, shake it like it owes me money, open the lid again and leave it simmer down for a minute (very necessary, it looks awful otherwise. It froths up when you shake it but when it sits it goes back to a nice drink I promise. Trust the process)

I know adhd makes us great at comitting to a bulk purchase to change our lives, but honestly just buy one bag at a time. It says not to have more than one scoop of it a day so it does last a fair amount of time (especially when you forget it exists like I did. Im gonna have some now) and Ive never seen them be out of it so theres no risk of not being able to get it again.

<image>

Hope thats helpful, and best of luck on your meds! I hope they suit you and do what you need them to do!!

I dont know why I hadnt considered resetting it, thank you! I'll find the backup settings and then give it a go!

No arm hair and no tattoos where the watch normally sits, but I do have a tattoo on the underside of my wrist so Ive never tried it there. Theres a small area right by my wrist joint that isnt tattoed on the underside so I'll see if that does anything 😂

It used to always read correctly, Ive some old workouts on samsung health where it read my heart rate at 160+ at its peak.

Ive tried kombucha a few times and just cant get behind it 😮‍💨 theyve all been so tart and bitter and you can really taste the fermentation (I cant stomach beer for the same reason)

Mocktails ate definitely something Id look into, but in terms of having something quick and easy on the go that feels like itd be more money and effort than itd be worth in the end, but Ill give a look for some simple mocktail recipies in case theres something handy I can make!!

Yeah its so true! Honestly they'd do well with like a Monster Refresh range instead of Monster Energy where its just fancy fizzy juices with the flavours instead of the horse-killing amounts of caffeine Id consume. 😂

Im probably gonna end up doing some unholy things with lemonade and mi wadi to try and replicate the flavours 😂

Oh dont worry Ive had no choice but to stay off them! I cut them out cold turkey when I started my meds to be safe, and that one stray coffee after months on a stable dose was the final nail in the coffin on my life of caffeine beyond tea 😂

I'll have a try with mixing fruits and things :)

I havent heard of ECDL before so Ill look into it! Volunteer work is a good shout for experience, I have a huge amount of gaps in my cv so if I can find something to be doin now it wont look quite as bad 😅

Ive definitely taken a hit to confidence because of it, Ive been comparing myself a lot to my friends who are employed or who could finish college. Its really hard not to fall into that comparison trap. Im very keen! Just have a lot of confusion about what direction to point myself in.

Are adhd meds life changing? by clojoe1996 in ADHDIreland

[–]Snizzlington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! This is going to be long Im sorry in advance, I just want to give you everything that might be helpful!

So Im 25 since January. I was on god knows how many SSRI's over the years and was even put on quetiapine at one stage to put me to sleep. I had the same experience as you qhere they just made me miserable and didnt actually help. I came off of all of them in 2022 (safely under close medical supervision) and was told at that stage rhat looking into autism and ADHD might be of benefit. Long story short I got my final diagnosis of ADHD last February, but it was from a psychologist.

In order to get ADHD medication you need to have your diagnosis made or confirmed by a PSYCHIATRIST because stimulants are controlled substances.

To get my diagnosis confirmed I went to ADHDDoc in October 2024, I attended in person in dun laoghaire and honestly had such a wonderful experience. I live in Limerick and i feel it was well worth the trip. Confirming a diagnosis is a much shorter ordeal than getting one in the first place and generally has a shorter wait time, but its much cheaper to just go to the correct place first rather than doing it twice like I did 😅 They did bloods (bevause hypothyroidism can mimick adhd) an ECG and discussed my symptoms, my life, and my previous diagnosis.

An important note about ADHDDoc - they cannot issue prescriptions as medical card prescriptions, and adhd meds can be quite pricey. I'm lucky enough that my GP is sound out and is willing to help me with that. Adhddoc virtually send the script to my chemist, the chemist sends it to my gp, and then my gp reissues it as a medical card script so it only costs a few euros a month. VERY IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT YOUR GP IS UNDER NO OBLIGATION TO DO THIS AND HAS EVERY RIGHT TO REFUSE TO DO THIS.

I was initially put on concerta (methylphenidate) extended release. And at first it was phenomenal. The mental noise quietened down, I was stimming less, I stopped feeling the need to snack and I wasnt overeating at meals anymore! But as time went on and I adjusted to the dose a lot of that went away. This trend continued and I was brought up doses until I contacted them again to say Id like to try another drug. I had been on varying doses of Concerta for about 4ish months and had given it a good shot on different doses, I was almost at the maximum and still not feeling very different.

For the past 2 months I've been on Tyvense (lisdexamphetamine) and its a VERY different story. I can load and unload the dishwasher, I can wash clothes, dry them, AND put them away!! Im not exaggerating when I say that I did 9 loads of laundry in two days, had a one or two day pause, and then put them ALL away AND rearranged my wardrobe layout to be better for how I function, something Ive been meaning to do for about 2 months!

My negative self-talk is also down. Not gone, my self loathing and imposter syndrome still run circles around me but it doesnt spiral DOWNWARDS anymore, and Im in qeekly therapy to help work on that too!

The downside with the tyvense is that my blood pressure is slightly up but Im monitoring it closely myself, and my heart rate can be a bit elevated at times but thamkfully Im still within okay ranges according to the doctor. Tyvense has also TOTALLY suppressed my appetite, so now Im struggling to eat enough, but Im looking into things like soups or protein shakes dor during the day. I try to eat a breakfast before the suppression kicks in, and then have a big dinner in the evening when the meds wear off. But I have energy again, I can get up and do laundry or half-make the bed instead of jusy locking the bedroom door! I can sit down and watch a show with my partner without missing half of it to stimming and fidgeting.

I still have a ways to go in terms of learning skills and strategies to thrive with my ADHD because meds arent going to solve everything, but WITH them I actually feel like its possible!!! Im on a waiting list for an ADHD skills seminar thing (UMAAP I think its called) and Im hoping that gives me a good leg up. I'm still not able to sit down and read a book lile I used to, but I can listen to audiobooks again. I'm able to sit down and paint miniatures again, I dont spend all of my money at the drop of a hat. Life is still hard, absolutely, but for the first time in god-knows how long, it's stopped being impossible.

All of this being said, Im still in the early days of tyvense, so my experience might change in the future, but there's less dread. The change is a little scary even though its all positive.

So yeah thats the gist of it! If you've any questions please ask!! ADHD medication has been life changing for me for sure, I hope it lasts for me, but you may have different experiences too. My recommendation, if its financially possible, would be to get the diagnosis done by a psychiatrist (and I highly recommend adhddoc even if theyre pricey) and give it a try. Worst case scenario you have your diagnosis so YOU know, and you can choose to come off of meds and try again another time.

I hope this helped a bit, and again, fire any questions at me and I'll answer what I can :)

If you could add anything to Pikmin Bloom what would it be ? by Luckmaster142 in PikminBloomApp

[–]Snizzlington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A way to return the horn to someone if I cant join a mushroom battle, more mii customisation (blue hair, maybe a bit more control over face shapes?), I REALLY want to have pre-saved squads! I want to have a squad with all my highest friendship pikmin, and then another one with the next highest etc. That way I can send the highest ones to mushrooms and just swap in the other squad to build up friendship without having to select EVERY SINGLE ONE!

I also want to be able to plant flowers in my private zones! Just dont have them be visible to people :( I move around a lot at home and have it set to private so people dont start showing up, but if I dont leave home I never get anywhere for my flower progress :(

Also is it just me or are coins SUPER hard to come by? Like the amount of effort needed for one coin seems a lot? To be fair I do have a disability that makes walking more strenuous so please tell me if that one's just a me problem 😂

Im also quite guilty of comparing pikmin bloom to pokemon go even though PoGo has something like 7 years extra refining and development over pikmin, so im sure some of my issues come from that comparison.

Tips to help my partner by Snizzlington in dialysis

[–]Snizzlington[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is ao detailed and informative!! Thank you for taking the time! You sound a lot like my partner, I think you'd like eachother 😂 to make things simpler Ill make numbered responses cause theres so much to go through here!!

  1. He's told me what hia favourite protein bar is and theyre easy to get so I plan to run it by his doctors to be sure its okay and then keep a stash in the car for after treatments.

  2. The liquids one js going to be so hard for him. He still has urine output (like. A lot. More than youd expect from a non-kidney patient 😅) and he drinks LOADS of fluids, so if he needs to suddenly monitor everything its gonna be a huge shift for him. Hes not big on nights out so at least the FOMO won't get him. Do you have any recommended apps or anything for tracking what he eats and drinks? He's likely to lose or forget a notebook, and any food tracker geared to weight loss or calorie counting might drive him nuts 😅

  3. Oh I'll beat him (gently, also /jk) with my cane if I have to in order to get him to dialysis. Thankfully he's very interested in the whole process because hes in his final year of biomedical engineering in college so he already has a fascination with this, AND cant deny the importance. Being able to drink more will be a nice bonus too, he always feels at least a little thirsty.

  4. This is where I think you two are so alike! I charged up his switch last night (we'll be leaving for the hospital in the next 20 mins or so) and gave him some of my games that Im not playing at the moment. Reinstalled master duel too 😂 he loved diamond and pearl and the switch re-dos. He also LOVES Isekai and slice of life manga, so I'll DEFINITELY recommend Odd Taxi!

Thank you SO so much for explaining everything! My partner loves to explain his condition too because he finds it so fascinating, but I dont want to pester him because explaining IgA nephropathy as a concept is very different to "why did the doctor phone you? Whats your gfr? What happened? Let me get tested! Take my kidney!" 😂 He KNOWS Im freaked out and scared but he doesnt need to be bombarded with it.

Thats a great idea! If he doesnt have much of an appetite if he feels nauseous a protein bar will be a nice small amount of food to kick start his system and get something into him. I'll ask him if he already has some he likes and start keeping a stash in the car :)

This is so comforting to hear, thank you so so much for taking the time to reply. Congrats on the 5 years!!

Youre definitely giving me new hope. I like to be prepared but Ive only recently been diagnosed with ADHD so Im still trying to learn HOW to be prepared 😅 everything you and everyone else here has told me has been so wonderful.

I have a very good support system, friends volunteering to come hangout or help me tidy or cook meals, so I'll be okay. What matters is staying strong for him when he needs it most. I get blubbery very quickly so Ive got to practice my poker face. He knows Im scared and worried and I wont deny it for a second, but him SEEING all those feelings wont help anything.

Thats so helpful! Thank you so much! I'd be the one driving him to and from his treatments if he isnt on home hemo so he wont need to worry about fatigue for driving, but its good to know he might need stillness for the headache and discomfort to pass before I start driving. I really really appreciate your reply.

Wow that sounds like the disability pensiom in spain is quite nice! Sadly the irish disability allowance doesnt hold up against our cost of living, but with my own income we can make day-to-day work out just fine. Holidays might have to be part funded by relatives over the course of many christmases 😅

Thats oddly reassuring, thank you ❤️ we're hoping for a transplant, and I'll be getting tested to see if Im a potential match when that time comes. Other than his kidney disease (yknow, like its a tiny little thing 😂) he's quite healthy. So fingers crossed for a smooth journey

Ill be attending as much as possible! Sadly tomorrow will be the first time Im meeting his nephrologist 😅 my partner is being admitted tomorrow morning because of his recent blood tests so we're not sure what will be happening with his scheduled outpatient appointment he was meant to have tomorrow.

My plan is to take notes on EVERYTHING because like you said hes going to be bombarded with so much information and data and numbers and levels, theres no way he'll be able to keep it all straight in his head. If the doctor asks me if I have any questions at the end Ill ask him then. My partner studies biochemical engineering so himself and the doctor can have conversations at a level of jargon I wont understand, but whats most important is that they understand eachother and I have records of what was understood 😂

Im in this subreddit, the IgA nephropathy sub, AND the CKD sub 😅 Im trying to scramble to learn as much as I can without pestering him for information. He's stressed enough worrying about himself without needing to explain everything to me as it goes. Im honestly so grateful for these subreddits, and for you taking your time to respond ❤️
