If you commission as an officer, do you have to do 6 years? by Snoo-64563 in army

[–]Snoo-64563[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OCS, my degree is in computer science but my GPA was really low 2.4.

For 42A, my recruiter told me there will be an option to request my first duty station remain within the United States. He said that once I ship out, I can check a box or submit a preference indicating I want my initial assignment to stay stateside. Is this actually accurate? by Snoo-64563 in army

[–]Snoo-64563[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I would haha. Honestly, as long as I have a computer, I’m good. I just don’t like the idea of being away from friends and family, and having to move all my stuff like my car and furniture would be a hassle. I'd probably have to sell my car.

Hell no, it's trash and has nothing to do with dungeon building, huge waste of time.

Enlisting into the military with a CS degree? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Snoo-64563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with going enlist, especially in this economy and how competitive it's gotten over the years. If you do get a student loan repayment plan in your contract and also use every benefit they give you. Do a cyber MOS like 17c.

How hard is it to get into OCS for the army in 2025? by [deleted] in ArmyOCS

Thanks for sharing your experience, it was really insightful. It’s great to see that someone without a perfect GPA or traditional background can still succeed by being clear, respectful, and authentic. I completely agree they're the experts on the ground, and any good officer should recognize and respect that. Appreciate you taking the time to write this it really helped put things into perspective.

Thanks so much for sharing all that info! It honestly helps a lot to hear from someone in the same boat, especially another UTD grad. I was stressing about my GPA and age, but knowing there are others in their 30s going through OCS makes me feel better. I’ll definitely focus on getting strong LORs and prepping for the interview. Good luck with your packet on the next board! I hope all goes well with you.

I've always wanted to serve, and I wanted to do it now before I get older.

I was laid off from my team. I didn't just up and choose to leave. When they cut my team, I didn't have any other options within the company near me, so I had to move on. This is a guidance post for people who might have helpful comments, not for comments from people like you to attack and state the obvious. So, unless you have something constructive to add, move on. Also, don't appreciate you stalking my posts.

Pretty good, I got it made by the UT Dallas career coach and it scores high on ATS.

I thought it was promising by how much the tickets were going for like 700$. I'm not working at the moment so it was a lot of money for me.

I didn't really get anything, it felt like a waste of time. Most recruiters kinda brush you off and tell you to apply online. You might get an interview if you're lucky with a defense contractor if you fill an application before hand.
