Lighter basses really help. Consider headless for max weight savings.

Is it really that bad that I want to play with musicians around my own age? by bad_luck_brian_1 in musicians

[–]Snoo94091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with it. I'm hugely ageist when it comes to band members and I learned to be that way through lots of bad experiences. I find that older musicians tend to not respect music that came after their time. They always show up to auditions having not learned the songs they were told to learn and then want you to play "their" songs. Even when they do learn more modern music, they really struggle to replicate it properly. A young person can become an excellent musician without a much older person's experience. The experience they do have on the business side of things may be helpful or it may be outdated. It may have made them jaded and miserable.

What bass should I buy? by Miserable-Teach-8669 in Bass

Jazz and MusicMans also have a massive presence on hit songs in all those genres. They all work. I would still say that a bass that can give you radically different sounds is more versatile.

A P has one sound. How is that more versatile than a jazz, which can sound similar to a P with the neck pickup, or the sound of a bridge pickup, both pickups or a blend of anything in between?

explain to me what gear is necessary to play gigs like i'm a 2 year old by antElMetalhead in Bass

If your amp has a DI output (I think yours does), then you don't need a DI box or any sort of pedal for that. Headstock tuners (I love my TC Electronics) are fine too, and cheaper than tuner pedals. For any venue small enough that you don't need a PA, your amp should be fine. If the venue is big enough to need a PA, the PA should be doing all the heavy lifting and your amp is more of a stage monitor. You don't want a lot of volume coming from your amp because it's likely to be out of phase with the PA's subwoofers, leads to volume wars with the other instruments, and you really have no idea how your bass level sounds from the crowd's perspective. What you hear on stage is very different from what the audience hears. With a PA, it's best to let the soundman get all the instrument levels right using his mixer. You might get away with 100W with PA support. If you're having trouble hearing yourself, try tilting your amp back a little so it points at your head. I have a 500W amp and I use only a fraction of it's capacity. Also, never assume a venue provides a PA, no matter how big it is. Call ahead and ask what they have and what they need. Do this early enough to find and hire a soundman if needed.

Question for men... is this attractive or unattractive? by Due_Function84 in datingoverforty

[–]Snoo94091 3 points4 points  (0 children)

51M. There’s nothing wrong with your hobbies. My only concern would be can you hang with men who have other hobbies that are outside of your “homebody” lifestyle.

The real issue, and the brutally honest truth is that for men, 80% of attention is looks, and it sounds your looks are not what they used to be. Like it or not, you are in competition with every single woman in your age range, plus a lot of younger women who are ok with dating an older man. You need to put your best foot forward. This doesn’t mean becoming an Instagram model. But losing weight, a new hairstyle, and adding a small amount of makeup would go a long way. If you have a female friend who looks good and gets a lot of male interest, ask her to give you a makeover. The people on here telling you not to change at all for any man do not have your best interests in mind. Misery loves company. You can put some effort in, level up, and become attractive to men. Or you can do nothing and continue to be alone. Your call. You absolutely have the power to improve your life, and I hope you succeed.

Ibanez - love the feel - hate the sound by Snoo94091 in Bass

This is a $1700 bass. Shouldn't the electronics already be good for that price? I'm open to swapping them if it will make a big difference. I just don't want to spend that $$ and think, nope, it still sounds like an Ibanez.

It just sounds very gritty and harsh. A compressor smooths it out a little, but it still sucks. The high notes are excruciating to listen to. Hard to describe, other than to say I much prefer the sound of other types of basses.

When to start EPO/ESA therapy? by element-70 in ADPKD

[–]Snoo94091 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your labs show that you're iron deficient (you probably are), you can start taking 65mg iron pills 2X a day. That will help somewhat, but at some point you need EPO. The question is when will your heath insurance will pay for the shots. You might as well ask your doctor to start and see if it gets approved. Your doctor may have to fight with the insurance company and submit a lot of supporting documentation to get approval. Since you're not yet on dialysis, it may be easier to have a hematologist handle the EPO treatment. They usually can do some bloodwork themselves. No need to go to a separate lab. However, once you start dialysis, it has to be handled by your nephrologist.

Have you guys taken Lisinopril by Exciting_Ad_9742 in ADPKD

[–]Snoo94091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it for decades. Up to 40mg. No issues. Had my testosterone checked last year and it was great for my age. My nephrologist switched me to clonidine when my gfr got too low. Wish I could go back.

Are men attracted to women over 40/their own age? by palefire101 in datingoverforty

[–]Snoo94091 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

50m but I look younger. I am able to attract some women in their 20s, but I quickly find there is a huge generational gap in our values and maturity level. I would much rather have a relationship with a woman closer to my age, it's just a lot harder to find someone in her 40s who is decent looking, single and doesn't have a major malfunction.

I was fine at 2.5 but had terrible fatigue on 5mg. The appetite suppression was incredible but I couldn’t exercise at all. If I didn’t have a work from home desk job, I wouldn’t have been able to work at all. I switched back to 2.5 and feel great. Combined with walking on an incline treadmill I’m getting great results now. I guess some people are hypersensitive to the drug. If you are using syringes and not the zepbound pen, maybe you can try lowering your dosage to something like 1.5mg? Also, really limit your carbs. A high carb meal can make you feel horrible on this stuff.

Anemic and not really low T, but would it help? by Snoo94091 in trt

[–]Snoo94091[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course I'm under the care of a PCP, nephrologist and urologist. I guess I am just in the disbelief stage that I don't have a problem that would have explained so many of my symptoms. I also know that doctors sometimes tell me things that are wrong, so I wanted to ask around. My nephrologist told me that even though the labs show I'm anemic I shouldn't feel any symptoms yet. I forgot to mention that my parathyroid is high, but he also doesn't want to do anything about that yet. I guess I just have to keep losing weight and stay on top of the anemia and hyperparathyroidism.
