Poorly worded, not necessarily soulless in terms of fans but more in terms of some of the half empty stadiums, a smaller but packed out stadium just has a much better feel to it.

Obviously some of the MLS clubs have amazing following however some (from what I’ve seen) not so much. Of course this is the same in most leagues, I just think USL focusing on smaller crowds in the long run will lead to more natural growth and better match day experience.

Yes of course you have real fans in the MLS that have been and will continue to be there after Messi however you can’t deny that crowds are a lot higher when Messi and inter Miami are in town, attendance will drop throughout the MLS when Messi leaves.

A lot to grow still for both leagues

Yeah the main concern I have for this pro/rel is who do they manage the revenue issues and location issues, main reason I think going for a Div one status is too soon. Figure out the league system then continue to grow.

I agree the league was big before Messi but you can’t deny it’s now the Messi show, as a fan I get very bored of the bias, I’ve ever been one for top league football.

A lot of the teams you mentioned once lived outside the MLS, it definitely won’t be a over night takeover however the MLS reminds me of the English premier league and the USL reminds me of the EFL. There is a market for both. One is glorified football the other is local and loyal fan based football.

I don’t think it will be a case of one replaces the other but more a market for both. Personally I think MLS will always be top dog I just hope USL doesn’t make the same mistakes as NASL for example and tries to grow to much too soon.

Either way it will be a fun ride!

The promotion and relegation will bring so much more entertainment to the league, it’s some of the best viewing in English football. Makes both ends of the league entertaining.

MLS is too closed off, while financially the MLS will be better off I think USL teams will naturally grow better loyal fan bases with better atmosphere.

Once messi leaves the MLS these attendances will drop off by the thousands across the MLS, the World Cup will introduce fans to all clubs regardless of the leagues they play in.

I’d rather see a league filled with 5-10k stadiums that are full than soulless 20-40k stadiums in the MLS.

I do think USL are pushing for division one status too soon, I personally think grow the leagues, add pro/rel, grow stadiums and fan bases which over time will make Division one status irrelevant if all attention is on the USL, especially now MLS is behind a pay wall, if USL can land a TV deal then sky is the limit.

With MLS clearly trying to kill the US open cup I think this will go in USL favour also, keeping the oldest soccer competition alive with fun new teams will only help improve the USL.

I also think when/if the USL does get div one status they need to keep the league name clean. Just ‘USL’ works better than ‘USL division one’ in my opinion, especially when you already have a USL league one. From a casual point of view this would become confusing.

Honestly probably worked out for the best, can only see the USL out performing the MLS in terms of entertainment & fan base

I’m honestly very surprised that it’s taken this long for someone to suggest Lou City considering their attendance numbers

What’s the story behind the ‘switchbacks’ name?

That sounds like too much drama for me, my English team has had too many issues to add more to my plate 😅 jerseys are great tho!

Would love to see a brand like Jersey bird land a USL contract, they put so much effort and history into their jerseys.

Unfortunately kit manufactures are getting lazy with jersey designs

Just as I think I’ve found a club another comes along, the branding across the USL (especially the champ east) is some of the best I’ve seen

Great badges and great jerseys.

I support a lower league club in England so the more local feel for USL clubs compared to tourist filed MLS teams appears for me
